Matcha Mama Pueblo — Restaurant in Quintana Roo

My girlfriend and I were on vacation in Tulum and went to Matcha Mama for breakfast one morning. We got there and after ordering were asked if we wanted to pay first or afterward. We decided to pay AND tip 20% prior to receiving any food or service. There were only about 5 customers in there the entire time we were there so we figured it would not be a big deal. After finishing our food and starting to walk away, one of the employees asked us if we paid. We stated we had but she had us come over to the counter anyways as she looked for our receipt from ringing us up. Their copy of the receipt was no where to be found and neither was the original employee who rang us up. At this point we begin looking for our receipt to show proof that we had already paid AND tipped 20%. At first we could not find the receipt and the employee had continued to hold us there as if accusing us of not paying, while she was scrambling trying to find their proof of payment/copy of the receipt. The employee finally called the original girl back over to the stand who had rung us up, hoping we could speak with her and she would recognize us. When she got there we asked her if she remembered us paying her about 20 minutes ago....she looked us right in the eye and stated she did not remember us. Keep in mind there were only 5 customers total the entire time we were there. At this point it started to get more heated while we looked for our receipt, being accused of not paying, and them looking for their copy of the receipt. After about 10 minutes of back and forth and being accused of not paying when we had done that AND already tipped 20%...we finally found our receipt. After being humiliated and falsely accused (BY A PERSON WHO CLAIMED SHE DID NOT RECOGNIZE US FROM 20 MINUTES AGO)...we gave them the receipt, asked for our tip back, and left. We feel that the employee who claimed she did not recognize us would not actually ring some of the customers up so she could keeps the money for herself. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND - THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PLACES THAT ARE BETTER IN TULUM. My girlfriend and I really liked Raw Love in Tulum which is a similar place with...

We ordered 2 smoothie bowls. The first one came out melted and without any of the toppings we paid for. Then we waited 15 minutes and the other bowl never came out.

Then I asked where my bowl was and they sent me someone else’s bowl in a hurry to try to fix the situation.

Then the owner luckily shows up and I tell her what’s going on. It’s now been over 40 minutes and we have not received the correct smoothie bowls. At this point I’m very annoyed and my inner entrepreneur came out. So I began watching them “remake” the bowls from the window.

I saw one girl with my wife’s bowl that was sent back, scraping the toppings off the top of the bowl in an attempt to salvage the melted smoothie bowl below. I caught here doing it; and then they threw the whole bowl away.

I had to demand they start the entire order over, and lay into the owner about how we paid $500 pesos for 2 smoothie bowls, and our expectation was they would come out at the same time or at least a few minutes apart at a maximum.

Then my wife “new” bowl came out, and it was the. Wrong bowl with the wrong toppings. Then my fowl did not have all the toppings on it and I needed to go back up to the counter to have them add the almonds and almond butter, I paid extra for.

After it was all Said and done, the bowls were lacking in any sort of flavor. Avoid this place.

The owner hired a bunch of kids to run the place, and the quality/consistency had fallen off. Sadly this is happen too often in tulum… this place sucks and will be one of the places to get bought out or go out of business as tulum grows....

We have been here 4 times, the matcha is excellent and the atmosphere is cute. However this last time the manager was SO RUDE. She messed up 3-4 drinks in the order and I showed her where I read the order from so she can correct it. She got defensive and rude. When I pointed out that she was being rude she told me she was mirroring my attitude. She only would remake one drink and she did it begrudgingly as by that time she used up the regular milk on the wrong drinks. Additionally I ordered a smoothie with no peanut butter for a child that is mildly allergic and took it to go. Found out after we left she added peanut butter anyway. Luckily the child only took one sip and we caught it early enough. It was very unprofessional and uncalled for. When I told the other person who had helped us multiple times and is extremely nice how rude she was she told us that was her manager. We will never come back to this location.
