If I could give this place zero stars that would be too much. Similar to other reviewers, I stayed in the hotel across the street and was directed here for the "included breakfast". This consisted of 7 individual pieces of warm cantaloupe + pineapple chunks. Coffee was undrinkable. No sparkling water available. 1 slice of dried toasted bread offered to me. I nearly laughed, and asked for the menu so I could order real food to EAT. They told me I would have to pay for anything extra, I said that's fine. I order the steak enchiladas.
The server brings out something bumpy sitting under a pool of green vomit on a plate. I close my eyes so I don't puke, and ask what that was and was told the "enchilada sauce". I cut into it with my knife and am met with a soggy dough that tastes squishy in my mouth - I realize there are 4 enchiladas drowned in the pool of green vomit on my plate. I push open 1 enchilada to try and at least get the steak for protein, and I taste a rubbery meat that I can chew like a gumball. I take 2 bites and realize it is inedible. I pause to close my eyes and then flag the waiter - he takes it away but doesn't bother asking what's wrong (probably is used to doing that, from what I can tell from the other reviews). I ask for an avocado and another slice of bread - the waiter says I will be charged for that too. I say, ok, I am hungry, please bring it. And bring salt so I can taste the food (there were 2 tablespoons of beans in a little dish next to the green vomit that I wanted to put flavor into). I ate the avocado and asked for the bill - my total was $39 dollars - for 1 avocado and 1/2 of 1 inedible steak enchilada. I laughed and just paid the bill.
Waiter was so rude and defiant, as if he was the owner of the establishment. This place felt like it was not customer focused, and I am lowkey. If someone sends back an entire dish of green vomit and says it's inedible, offer to remake the dish or take it off the check. I do NOT recommend eating here - disgusting food, tiny portions for the all inclusive and a total...
Read moreMediocre would be a generous interpretation. I've lived in Mexico for many years and this is easily in the top 3 worst dining experiences I've had in the entire country. Not only was the food deeply disappointing, for the pricepoint it's absolutely criminal. High prices are the norm in Tulum, but at least in the others places I've tried that corresponds to food that is a high quality. Unfortunately, that's not the case at Tamarindos. The Baja tacos were an abomination. Honestly I was shocked by how bad they were. The grouper ceviche was edible but lacked any depth of flavor. The guacamole was ok, but was extortionately priced. I've never paid that much anywhere else in Mexico OR even in the US for simple guacamole. To add insult to injury, they automatically include a 15% "service charge" to the bill. When we inquired we were told, oh that's just the tip. According to PROFECO (the consumer protection authority in Mexico), this practice is illegal in Mexico (this is easily verifiable online). And for what it's worth, I've never encountered another place in Mexico that's tried to do this. But I can see from other reviews that mention this, it's a standard practice clearly used at Tamarindos to scam tourists. Tulum has grown exponentially as a tourist destination in the last several years with many, many restaurant options, please spare yourself the unpleasant experience of dining here. You can definitely find better places to...
Read moreWe came to Tamarindos as part of the breakfast service offered by the Nueva Vida hotel. When we arrived, the restaurant had only two tables seated. The waiter saw us come in but continued slowly cleaning tables and chatting with a colleague.
After five minutes of sitting without any acknowledgment, we politely asked if we could get a coffee and started walking toward the kitchen to see if we could pour it ourselves. The waiter didn’t appreciate this and responded, “One moment, please.”
After waiting 20 minutes with no service and still no coffee, I went to the hotel lobby and got coffee there. Meanwhile, a few other customers arrived about 20 minutes after us and were served more quickly. It seemed the waiter had an attitude and didn’t like that we asked for coffee while he was busy wiping shelves and appearing occupied.
The breakfast itself tasted good, but after waiting an hour and not receiving silverware in time, the experience was far from enjoyable. We won’t be returning.
