This was the first place we ate when we arrived in Fez- the great reviews took us here and for good reason! Just a few steps from the Blue Gate, you sit amongst a flurry of people going by in the Medina, you are welcomed with Moroccan tea and olives and salad. We asked for a mixed grill of meat and skewers of meat. It was all delicious! We wanted more! The service was friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was great, you really felt part of the bustling atmosphere but could also sit back and observe, eat and enjoy without being disturbed- apart from a few lovely stray cats (who, if you don't like too much, can scare them away by shaking a water bottle). What's more- it was very affordable!
We met a friendly man and son who were ordering the famous sandwiches to take away for their third time in Fez here! They recommended them to us. We got them the next day to takeaway for lunch, very affordable and were good BUT I would recommend actually taking the time to sit at this place, order the mixed grill/skewers and soak up the atmosphere. It will not disappoint! 5 ⭐'s and we will be...
Read moreI read the review and went thinking he would be amazing! But I guess he is a moody guy and serves dishes who he thinks he should. We were not offered anything and thinking we are tourists he expected us to order a big meal (platter and stuff like those things) but we went with an intention to order just the kefta sandwich and 1 portion of lamb chops.. we were not offered salad (which everyone got) and since he observed me looking at that and on leaving when I confronted him, he just gave a discount of 10 MAD and requested for a good review instead.
We had 1 mid aged couple who just entered when we were at the end of our meal, and he immediately got them salad and got them 2 plates of lamb chops and 2 mint teas (upon asking, they were worried as to how much he would charge, cause they didn’t even request for lamb chops or tea)
Disappointed!
On the hindsight, kefta kebab was 6/10 Lamb chops 3/10 ( I give this rating only cause it didn’t even have bare minimum salt) it was just bbq’d and given for the...
Read moreVery hole in the wall place. Worth a visit if you are in Fes. There are a wide selection of meats, and they have are all worth trying. Invariably, the owner will suggest that you get a mixed meat platter. Just go with it.
We had chicken, beef, lamb chops and camel minced. The chicken was pretty standard, nicely grilled and succulent. The beef koftas were pretty tasty and flavourful. The camel meat was not gamey at it. It tasted like beef but cleaner. The lamb chops were the star for me. They were perfectly seared and tender right off the grill. I got a couple of pieces that had a nice amount of fat.
The Moroccan salad is also easily the tastiest I had here. It had a little bit of kick to it due to the chilli, but it was refreshing and had just the right amount of acidity to cut through all the grilled meats you will be having.
The owner was very passionate about his food, and his hospitality was impeccable. We felt very well welcomed, and his smile when we complimented his food just lights...
