The name of the restaurant that we ate at is "bouyad", not ruija. But it is the only chinese restaurant you will see immediately upon entering the blue gate and if you look at the pictures that others have posted, the dining hall of this restaurant is the same one we ate in.
Overall = 4.5
My wife and I ordered the camel dumplings (unique to us and tasty), the crispy chicken with hot peppers (we ordered spice level two and it did not disappoint in spice level, but the chicken was a little too salty for our taste), and the plain fried rice (which is probably one of the best fried rice we've ever eaten). We also ordered a tea and a coke.
Our bill was 260 MAD. Relatively expensive for what we've spent for all of our other meals in Morocco in the 8 days we've been here, but we would gladly come back to have more of that fried rice and to try their other dishes. FYI, Cash only.
If there was one thing that would have made our experience better, it would be if the cooking area was equipped with exhaust fans. Many of the meals prepared the day of our visit (including one of our dishes) uses a lot of hot peppers. High temperature cooking of hot peppers vaporizes the capsaicin, and without exhaust fans, it just floats into the dining space and irritates the lungs of those sitting in the...

Detailed version: After days of eating Moroccan cuisine, I was craving Chinese food. I was extremely lucky to have stumbled upon this place. I was expecting "Panda Express" level fake "Chinese" food, but what I got was authentic Sichuan cuisine. I highly recommend the cumin lamb & the sauteed green beans. The camel dumplings were definitely the most unique things on the menu (also delicious). Frankly, the Chinese food here is more authentic than most of the Chinese food accessible to me in the Portland Oregon area.
Beyond the food itself, the service was wonderful. Jason - the owner - was extremely warm and helpful. He gave us all kinds of useful advice on negotiation tactics at the medina, travel options, must see places in Fes, etc. BTW, he's speaks Chinese, English, & Arabic, so he's a great resource for tourists to ask for local advice.
Bottom line - Rujia is an oasis of wonderful Chinese food in a neighborhood of Fes that doesn't have a whole lot of...
Read moreDon't get put off by it's appearance (like I almost did by it were it not for the recommendation by the beautiful Moroccan shopkeeper girl next door) this restaurant serves up really quite authentic and delicious Chinese food. It's all the more impressive when you think about how restrictive it must be to get hold of ingredients necessary for preparing Chinese dishes here. They are actually halhal! Hats off to the two cooks from China! The young owner Jason is a great guy, sharing with us tips from his years of experience in Morocco. The fact that he speaks Cantonese as well made us feel right at home. We're having our third meal here today in as many days in Fes, and we'll probably come back for our fourth before departing for our next destination tomorrow! So far we've had fried rice, fried noodles, stir fried string beans, fish with pickled cabbage and chilli, stir fried cabbage with garlic, stir fried beef with green peppers, they were all good. They have Western countries favourite dishes too, like sweet and sour everything, but we haven't...
