Was recommended to Chez Rachid by my local host and it was great. The restaurant is located right by Bab Baujloud so it’s easy to locate and you get to people-watch while you eat.
Had their set menu for 70MAD, which includes: 1 starter (choose from salad or soup), 1 main (choose anything from the menu) and 1 dessert (fruit or local sweets). I had the Moroccan salad, Royal Couscous (chicken, beef and sausage with vegetables) and fruits. The portion was insanely huge for me (like all the food in Morocco) and everything was great! Love how all the ingredients tasted fresh and were served with a twist - my orange slices were seasoned with cinnamon! Pace yourself as bread and olives are provided complimentarily :)
The female server was really attentive. It was 8 degrees and I was feeling cold, she served some hot soup to warm me up. Only downside to this was that it was located right by the Main Street and a lot of people walk past, one lady even stole my olives with her bare hand. Did not touch the olives after that 😔
Thought it was hilarious that they described margeeze as an unknown dish on the menu 😆 googled and still doesn’t know...
Read moreFood is delicious and the price is reasonable for Medina. A set menu would cost you about MAD70 which comes with a starter + mains + desert. You'll find people trying to rip you off for MAD100-120. So this is definitely a good deal. It's also a great place to meet your other travel partners as it's near the Blue Gate. Staffs are very accommodating and they will try their best to help you out if you're not being an ass.
Things to note: The area is small, if you're coming with a group of anything more than 4 you'll have problems being seated together and you might find yourselves sharing tables with other travellers.
The drinks are outsourced by another cafe around the corner, and it will take a while for them to gather all your drinks together. If you want your coffee with milk or tea with sugar on the side, let them know when you order.
The menu comes in English & French. The French menu states that the starters comes with a choice of either Moroccan Salad, Mixed Salad or Soup. Soup isn't indicated in the English side of the menu, however you may still order it as...
Read moreAfter a long day of travelling, I was famished. Chez Rachid offers standard prices (most meals ranging from 30-40 Moroccan Dirham.
Food: The food was mediocre at best, but that could be because of my order of skewers. I was sick of Tajin, so I decided on skewers instead. To be honest, their chicken was dry and vegetables flavourless. The fries were decent. I recommend anything other than the skewers.
Service: Hospitality was excellent, which is why I decided to give 3 stars. They are very welcoming towards foreigners (especially Chinese) and extremely friendly. There was even a misunderstanding where we paid but a different waiter thought we didn’t (and the original waiter went on break) and he gave us the benefit...
