This is a great place! It really is. I don’t understand the low rating maybe the management has changed recently. It’s worth a high 4.8/4.9

A great location with a couple of floors, really top quality furniture and cushions and a solid sun shade on the top floor giving real protection in the really hot days. Some unprotected too with umbrellas

We eat a lot of Moroccan food and the dishes were really good with proper flavours. The cous cous comes with a separate sauce which is rare here and necessary so you can change the dish with harissa as an option im sure!

Fresh wonderful salads, great cocktails and really good tasty Moroccan food

And importantly

Fabulous service. Mohammed was a delight and speaks many languages and can guide you through the menu. We saw that the staff receive the tips!! Rare. So a good reason for them to do a great job.

We found this place on the last day sadly! Otherwise would return

Thank you. L’ancien Cafe and Mohammed

Honestly, the service was awful. The guy in charge was super rude. When I asked if I needed a reservation before grabbing a table, he said yes, even though there were several open tables on the rooftop. He only pointed me to a table next to the kitchen, which had a view of Jamaa el Fna but was really uncomfortable.

To my surprise, I saw lots of people coming in without reservations and picking their own tables. I even asked a few of them, and they said they just took any free table. I watched people snagging tables with a view as soon as they opened up, no reservations needed. But when I tried to do the same, the staffer claimed the table was reserved, which was clearly a lie since other tourists took it right after.

On top of that, the order was a letdown. The smoothie came in a glass jar that looked like something you’d buy at the market, not a proper drink glass.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone wanting a great experience in Morocco. Instead, check out Google Maps for better-reviewed rooftops...

We went in the afternoon for 3 drinks. The banana smoothie I ordered did not come. But I received a banana split instead. On ordering the waiter repeated the order so he appeared to understand. When the banana split arrived I politely said no I wanted a smoothie. He then said sorry but you still have to pay for it. I didn’t touch it. The smoothie came but it wasn’t banana. I’m not sure what the strawberry/peach coloured juice was but it wasn’t banana. So the guy has it wrong twice now. That part didn’t bother me. I drank it and went to pay. Of course the most expensive item on the ticket was the split. I argued again. He begged I pay for it and offered to throw in a bottle of water. I felt scammed. But I also felt if this was coming out of the pocket of staff then that’s extra incentive to know the order. But on my experience with the city I expect this was another scam. Maybe it was just a mistake that I had to pay for in the end, but it wouldn’t have happened anywhere else I...
