We had booked Hotel Atlas as our stop after a 10 and a half hour drive back to Marrakech.||When we find it, down a sketchy alley of other dingey looking budget accommodation, we wait along time to check in. The place, Hotel Atlas, is unprepared for the number of walk-ins at this time of night (now 9pm at this point). The guy finally takes us to our 'room'. He says we have been switched to a terrace room. We think we have lucked out on some sort of upgrade. But no no. At the top of 4 flights of stairs (which he did not offer to help carry our luggage up), he shows us what can only be described as a storage room. Two long couches flank either wall and at the far end is stacked up cushions from the terrace furniture.||My partner sees this and says immediately 'this is not a room. ||||'this is the boss' room. He sometimes sleeps here'||||'This isn't what we booked. We booked a private double bed'||||'You have been given the big boss' room'||||'there aren't even any sheets'||||He turns nasty at this point and turns the light off, ushering us back out of the room. I have to keep switching the light back on because I had put my bags down and couldn't see to collect them||'You don't want it. You can find something else then'||||'we want what we asked for. We paid 20 euros and this is not a proper room'||||'I have left my post. Come on. Let's go'||At this point, I ask, 'Where are we supposed to go now?'||'not my problem'||We have an unpleasant march back down all the stairs where mayhem has broken out downstairs. The 'big boss man' is hurriedly trying to sort the queue that has racked up at reception. We are still going back and forth with this horrid man who, at this point, is now kissing his teeth at us and treating us with utter disdain. The boss is brought into this dispute. He is a little more open to the idea of being given a normal room (a radical request I know) but clearly they have overbooked and, rather than just admitting this mistake, starts faffing and sorting other people, leaving us standing in the lobby frantically trying to get on the internet ourselves to find somewhere else at what is now 9.45pm.||||Suffice to say we had to find another hotel at 10pm at night and Hotel Atlas, a place that works under the guise of hospitality, did not care what happened to us. ||||DO NOT FUND THESE...
Read moreThis was a good chioce! The location is beyond excellent! I loved the tiny little pathway to the Madina which was far enought not to hear so much noise from it but close enought to smell the horses!!!!!!! I also loved there was a tiny corner store just at the edge of the ally into the Medina who was just about the only man/place/store in the whole of Marakech who didn't try to take advantage of me in any way shape or form. Always had cold coke, water and juices.
The hotel was basic. The rooms were extreamly small. In the picutres they look larger but our three person room with a shower was tiny and the bathroom miniscule. But it did the trick. The aircon kept the room cool and we slept great.
Abdulla was helpful and a friendly face when we returned. I appreciated his help and kindness which he was always ready to offer. When he was not there another man was and it wasn't as kind and didn't speak enough english to help us when we needed it.
We ordered breakfast once for 8:30 am before and excurstion. We went to the roof to get it but no one was there. We sat for a few minutes and realized we'd miss our excursion if we waited anymore. We ened up getting breakfast around the corner at Ben Deis. Since we missed the breakfast we paid for, Abdulla offfered it to us the next day. Thinking they "got it" that we needed it at a certain time because of transportation we went at the time requested but again nothing....There was another family they were serving ahead of us but because they wait to see you on a camera before setting the table, again we couldn't wait. I ened up not asking for the money back as we had requested the breakfast and I did not want them to be out the reimbursement for that but we never had breakfast with them because of that. Just a heads up for anyone in a similar...
Read moreFor the price you pay, this riad has everything you need. We are a couple and we are paying 170dh every night (this is our last night): big bed or two small together and a little sink, that's it. But I tell you, everything is very clean, I did not find any single hair on the sheets or things like that, neither bugs around.
For 25dh you get a complete breakfast with jus d'orange, coffee, egg, bread, crepe, butter, jam and cheese. You can take the breakfast at one of the beautiful tables they have on the terrace. The terrace up to the last floor (3rd floor) has two parts and it's soooo beautiful. There's also a beautiful inner terrace where all the rooms are facing to.
It has only three bathrooms, each one in a different floor. They are communal for boys and girls and there is no toilet paper so you better buy at the shop.
There's also a shower in each floor, and to get hot water you gotta wait and wait.
We made a reservation the first time we came, but then we came twice with no reservation and it was difficult to host us. i recommend you to book it before just in case.
There are two guys keeping the keys. They take turns for that, and both are nice. One speaks also spanish and the other one it's'nt but he smiles more, so "una por otra" haha.
Nice and cheap place. Incredible close to Jemaa El Fna. Hard to find how to get there at the beginning, so find its website through HostelWorld or so. Then they have a picture there when u can see the exact street you have to take from the main square. Walk 80-100meters (it's a narrow street and it seems there's going to be nothing at the end, but keep walking and you will find it to the left)....
