The three stars were only for the quality of food served. The rest of our experience here was far below the other ratings here.
Food: While very good in flavour took 2.5 hrs to arrive. This has been the case in restaurants where there are over five or six courses served but this was the first time we have experienced such a delay. We waited about 30 mins for drinks that were straight out of the fridge and almost an hour for the first entree. Waited another hour for mains and had to ask multiple waiters for the dessert (that neither of us wanted to begin with) just so we could leave before 3 hours were up.
Service: While we had a friendly enthusiastic server, we were only offered the set menu and there was definitely a sense of pushing us towards the most expensive option on the menu which was 290 dirhams per head. The menu we were given was the one with just the 3 set menu options and nothing else so we chose one of each option at 240 dirhams and 290 dirhams a piece despite informing our server that this would be too much food. Imagine our surprise when we saw other tables being offered menus with many more options and smaller portions which would have been our preference from the very start. The restaurant had about 3 or 4 tables when we got there and filled up pretty quickly in the hour after. Other tables seemed to get their food a lot quicker even though they arrived after us. We were then asked for a tip while we were leaving despite not receiving good service! Waiters was also very rude when minimal tip was left.
Ambience: The rooftop was a great way to beat the heat (Temp was 48 celsius) in the evening but it was very loud and chaotic with us not being able to hear each other due without shouting. Made for a very long 2.5 hrs of dinner. To clarify - we got to dinner at 8.30pm and did not leave until 11pm.
Overall I am not sure if it was just the particular evening that we went or if it is the general vibe for dinner but I would not go back to this restaurant unless you are okay with the above. We did have good food at other restaurants around the square near the souk so this is not the...
Read moreIf you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Marrakesh, look no further! This restaurant serves some of the best tajine I’ve ever had—perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and beautifully spiced. Every bite was a delight, with tender meat, perfectly balanced seasoning, and the kind of slow-cooked depth that makes Moroccan cuisine so special.
What truly made the experience even better was Murad, our incredible host. From the moment we walked in, he made us feel welcome with his warm hospitality and genuine enthusiasm for the food. He took the time to explain the dishes, recommend the best options, and even share a bit about the history behind the flavors. His passion for Moroccan cuisine and ensuring guests have a wonderful time is evident in every detail.
The ambiance was charming, the service was impeccable, and the food was nothing short of outstanding. If you’re in Marrakesh and want an authentic meal with an even more authentic experience, this is the place to go. Highly...
Read moreOur experience at Rooftop Restaurant El Kennaria was nothing short of delightful. I started with the mixed samosas, one filled with chicken and the other with a blend of cheeses. Both were fresh, flavorful, and the perfect way to begin the meal.
Others in my group ordered the Tanjia Marrakchiya, a traditional beef dish slow cooked for seven hours with 27 different spices. After enjoying tagine throughout our trip, we found this to be truly next level, rich, aromatic, and unforgettable.
The amazing customer service elevated our experience even further. Mourad was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable, making us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our meal.
Dining on the rooftop added an extra touch allowing us to you take in the mountains in the distance.
