I’ve passed by Mythos plenty of times, and for the longest time, I thought it was called “Mythes” because the “O” looks like an “E”—a creative choice that didn’t quite work for me, but anyway! Walking inside, I was blown away by how beautiful the place is. I wasn’t expecting the stunning water canals and the sheer size of the interior. Yes, it’s a bit old and outdated, but there’s still something charming about it.
We’d heard good things from friends, so we finally decided to give it a try. I’ll admit, as we waited for a table (which didn’t take more than 15 minutes), I skimmed the menu and almost told my partner I wanted to leave. Just as I was about to say something, they called our name, so I figured we’d stick it out. I’m glad we did.
Once inside, we were seated at a cozy table for two, and our server, Jamie, was incredible from the start. If you’re looking for outstanding service, Jamie’s your person. She greeted us with a warm smile, suggested a few dishes, and when she noticed we’d ordered quite a bit of food, she offered to move us to a bigger table. We were starving, so the extra space was much appreciated!
My partner started with a salad (I can’t remember which one, but I’ve posted a picture!), and he loved it—though, to be fair, he was starving, so that may have helped. He also ordered the Fork, Knife, and Spoon Grilled Cheese, which he was giddy about because he wanted to feel like a kid again for some reason, haha. While he loved the tomato soup, he wasn’t a fan of the grilled cheese. He said it barely had any cheese and was way too hard to eat. So, that was a bit of a letdown.
I opted for the Spanakopita Dip, which was served extremely hot. Unfortunately, the lemon flavor overpowered everything else, so I couldn’t fully enjoy it. My partner agreed, and after one bite, he was done. I tried a couple more bites, hoping it would get better, but no luck. I was disappointed because it had potential.
Next up were the Baked Lamb Meatballs, which threw me off because they were cold. I’m not sure if they were supposed to be that way, so if anyone knows, let me know! The sauce was delicious, though, and I think I would’ve liked the dish a lot more if the meatballs were warm.
For my main course, I was torn between the Spinach and Garlic Ravioli and the Pad Thai. I usually prefer something with meat, and the Pad Thai comes with both chicken and shrimp. Jamie told me I could add meat to the ravioli if I wanted, but she recommended the Pad Thai—and I’m so glad I took her advice! The Pad Thai was absolute perfection. It had a nice kick of spice, which I loved, and the flavors were amazing. I wasn’t expecting such a delicious Pad Thai at a Greek restaurant, but it was easily the highlight of my meal. I couldn’t even finish it—it was so filling!
Sadly, I was too full to order dessert, which was a real bummer because I’m a big dessert fan. Even so, I left completely satisfied. Jamie continued to be amazing even after we had paid and tipped her. There was a downpour outside, so she let us stay longer, kept refilling our drinks, and checked in on us regularly. Her kindness really stood out, especially since she had no obligation to continue serving us after we were done.
Jamie is truly a gem, and even if the food wasn’t great (which, luckily, it was), I’d return just for her. In fact, I overheard a young boy in a wheelchair at the next table tell Jamie he remembered her from a previous visit, which just goes to show how special she is. She’s the kind of person who keeps people coming back, and I can’t wait to return to hopefully have her as our...
Read moreOn April 15th, we had the opportunity to have lunch at Mythos Restaurant, located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure. On a scale from 0 to 10, I would rate the experience a 7. The atmosphere is pleasant; however, when I tried to make a reservation, only evening time slots were available—no option for the morning or lunchtime. Even though we entered the park early with Early Park Admission (EPA), we couldn’t make a reservation for lunch early in the morning. I believe either reservations are only available for dinner, or lunch reservations must be made the day before.
We left our phone number at the front desk and were told the estimated wait time was 50 minutes. In the end, we were called after 48 minutes—so, two minutes earlier than expected. We were seated at a table where the hostess kindly removed a chair so we could place our stroller. However, no one informed us in advance whether or not strollers were allowed inside.
My wife went to the restroom during our wait, intending to change our baby’s diaper. Unfortunately, there was no changing table available in the women's restroom, which caused a great deal of inconvenience. Considering that the restaurant is family-friendly and located inside a theme park that welcomes young children, the absence of a proper baby changing facility was surprising and disappointing.
We ordered sparkling water, and when the server brought it to us, the bottles were already opened. Instead of bringing one mid-sized bottle, she brought two small ones. Since both were already opened, I didn’t have the option to decline the second one. Additionally, the server poured the water improperly and left one of the open S. Pellegrino bottles on the table, which quickly lost its carbonation.
Our first appetizer was the octopus, which I would rate a 9 out of 10—it was very good. The second appetizer was the couscous. For this dish, we had the option of meat, chicken, or tofu, and we chose tofu. Unfortunately, the tofu was extremely salty, and the accompanying bread was burnt. We stopped eating the dish and I requested a replacement. When I did, the server, with a mocking expression, explained that the bread is made over an open flame and that’s why it had burnt marks. I replied that it actually tasted of ash and was too burnt to eat, and I asked her—politely—to replace it with something properly prepared.
She once again made a sarcastic face and said she would check with the chef about what could be done. In the end, the dish was replaced, but the errors were completely reversed. The tofu that was extremely salty came back completely flavorless, and the bread, while not burnt this time, still wasn't prepared correctly. Overall, I would rate the couscous dish a 2 out of 10.
We were planning to order more food, but after this sequence of unpleasant surprises, we decided to ask for the bill and end the...
Read moreTLDR: Don’t waste your money or your park time.
The details: We are Universal Passholders, and I have been wanting to eat here for so long! We finally did tonight, with visiting family, and what a huge MISS. And a huge waste of money and precious park time.
It’s gorgeous inside, there’s no doubt about that. That’s the end of my positives.
First, the earliest reservation we could get was at 8:45. At 6pm they started texting me to come check in, could I come earlier, they’d love to welcome us earlier etc. Several texts. We agreed on 8. Upon arriving and being seated, we realized they wanted to close up for the night. The chairs in Mythos are the heaviest metal chairs I’ve ever encountered, and they were dragging them around non-stop to clean. We couldn’t carry on a conversation because it was so loud. The kids, who were disgruntled already that we cut their ride time short for an earlier dinner, all ordered pizza. About 25 minutes later, they came out to tell us the oven was down and they couldn’t do pizza. For the youngest, this really didn’t go over well. We were pretty frustrated at this point - because we didn’t want to to start the clock again on ordering and waiting for food. We said we would just pay for the drinks we’d had, and go. But our server said we couldn’t do that because our food had already been ordered. She offered a pizza made on pita instead, we accepted, and the wait continued. I don’t know why they could make that but not the menu pizza, but whatever. Then, they brought out the adult meals, and of course, no kid meals. Because that works well with 3 kids after a long day in the park… have them sit while all the adults are eating. And, one meal was wrong. The Greek Salad with Shrimp came out as a Greek Salad with Chicken. When that was immediately pointed out, they just walked away with it. Well into most of the adult meals, the kids’ food came out, and then after that, the Greek with a side plate of the saddest little shrimp finally arrived. No apology. No nothing. Honestly. At this price, even for a theme park, and with this reputation, I really expected better. At least acknowledgement of this not being right. After a mediocre and disjointed meal, where we were made to feel like an annoyance even after changing our reservation time for their convenience, we were all happy to leave and say, “never ever again”. It was the close of our vacation with visiting family, and it was definitely the lowest point, and a disappointing way to wrap up...
