Surprised by the lack of breakfast, that is, the lack of eggs. Didn't seem to be something offered at eight o'clock. Could be this is an error stemming from other reviews. Unfortunately it did impact my expectations.

Nice reused locale. I wonder what was here in the past given the typical storage rails along the walls. Expedient service, absolute breath of bread-based options. Tasty cheese and ham sourdough toastie. Delicious baguettes (half). Delicious pastries.

Coffee is great, and by coffee I mean the one and only filter coffee. Get out of here with your "espresso is the standard" worldview! (I'm just kidding, espresso is delicious, too.) Bakhuys has filter coffee, which is tasty and served in nice heat-tampered glasses. It's not easy to find filter coffee in Amsterdam, so seize the opportunity.

Other tips include knowing how to queue. It'll help.

Tips to Bakhuys would be to let staff sleep more (they seemed a bit grouchy or tired compared to most staff I've seen in Amsterdam, and I'm Norwegian). They were still kind and expedient. Other tips would be little name badges for some of the pastries, that'd avoid walking through the queue to point to a pastry you haven't seen before.

Almost last, but not least, an overview over any hot meals if they exist.

Lastly, there's a thing (smoke detector with low battery?) beeping every twenty seconds...

I've been coming here nearly every week for several months, mainly for the tasty pastries and food. However, I'm giving a rating of 1 to highlight a significant issue: the condition of the furniture, especially the chairs.

This isn't just a matter of personal preference. The chairs, as they are now, can actually damage clothing. Additionally, the metallic chairs outdoors are impractical, rendering seating nearly impossible unless one is blessed with a sunny summer day (and even then, it remains uncomfortably cold).

To the owner, I encourage you to consider updating the furniture. The cost would be minimal compared to the potential enhancement of your establishment's reputation and ambiance.

I'll gladly switch my rating to a 5 once I notice an improvement. Until then, I'll continue to visit occasionally, hopeful for a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing experience in the...

A brimming place with amazingly baked breads, buns and other beautiful "gebakjes". I went here on a Summer morning with some friends, even joined by a friend who came from Amstelveen, can you imagine? It was a lovely morning. Please go here on a lovely morning, you will love it. We came prepared, with time in our pockets, because if you want to order in, your order may require aan abundance of patience (hence the 4 stars). No, don't go and stop reading here, because what you can order is well worth the wait. Either way, the coffees and teas we ordered were more than adequate, tasty and lush, the croissants were above and beyond nomnommaterial. I think you could say that those were our appetizers, because our real brunch was omelets and poached eggs. And those. We're. Mmmm. Oof. Woah. Have they arrived yet? Yes, finally.. ohhh... Mmmm. Wow. Delicious!...

At the Bakhuys at november 4th. We stood in line outside. Once inside we saw a list of sandwiches and a coffee machine. We ordered a salami sandwich, choriso, a coffee bun and two cappuccinos. It turned out that we ordered at the wrong side; apparently there was another place to order. Why show the entire order list here?! Fortunately, our sandwiches were still picked up. The cappuccinos took a while, because the drinks for the people behind us were made first. Eventually we got our cappuccinos in dirty cups. The coffee bun was tasty, nice and flakey and not too sweet The bread was delicious! However, the salami sandwich had an unexpected mix of pesto and butter, which gave it a sour touch and contained flakes of fennel. However, this was not mentioned on the menu, which is important given the current intolerances.

Loved Bakhuys! There is no clearer sign a place will be good and authentic than having its owns bakery nested in. We stayed next door at the CitzenM for 3 days, and had breakfast at Bakhuys every day we were in Amsterdam. The coffee was great, the bakery was amazing! We ended up trying all their sandwiches. It was so good! Atmosphere wise they had a busy flow in the morning, people eating in and taking to go, the service was quick friendly and kept clean (another good sign the place is good). It felt very local, there was a little boy that was coming in the same days and times we were and he would play the piano, so charming. We took a sandwich and bread for our train to Belgium. Breakfast at the hotel was 17€ each while we were spending that much for two at Bakhuys.
