Absolutely disgusting service, food and pricing.

My friends and I made a reservation ahead of our holiday at this restaurant; to celebrate a friend's birthday with a nice dinner to end the day on. At first the restaurant seemed okay, we were seated downstairs and the girl serving us on Saturday night was beyond lovely as I am sure she tried her best. Unfortunately, the atmosphere soured quite quickly throughout the visit.

My partner and I chose a medium rare 160g black angus tender loin (26Euro), the size of the dish was beyond pathetic. A tiny steak, with a side of tomatoes that tasted worse than many I've had brought at Tesco or Lidl in the past. I believe they were either out of date or of extremely low quality. The starter we got were the grilled scallops (17.25Euro). A dish that contained three measly scallops on (let's be honest) mushy peas. It tasted bland. I will refrain on commenting on what the rest of the group bought as there was quite a few of us, but most were disappointed with the dishes they received. The drinks were okay but I've had better cocktails at much less expensive dinner experiences.

Still, we were quite occupied with ourselves and even were happy with the tables sitting next to us. Everyone kept up a happy attitude, at one point singing happy birthday to celebrate, until a rude beyond words male server approached us from another floor and we were informed that "We are on our final warning and we should be quiet as he has tables upstairs."

Not only have we not been informed of any prior 'warnings' up to this point, but we have been told off as a room along with the other tables by someone who we haven't seen before nor after this encounter. The room turned quiet as all our moods soured. It felt as though we were the 'problematic' customers banished to the lower floors to keep away from the 'respectable clientele' they would have rather served. I feel this was unjust and very disrespectful, possibly even discriminatory. I do not understand why our 'floor' was under a silence ban to keep the other clientele happy as they were equally as noisy.

The girl who served us was apologetic about this encounter but I have to say it ruined the rest of the night for us. Not only this, but I have to add the tax and service charge in this place are BEYOND EXTREME. We paid nearly double of what we expected to have been paying by the end of the night, especially considering if it was optional we would have skilled the service charge entirely due to the man's poor manners when approaching us and we would have purely tipped the girl for her service instead of risking any of it going to him and his...

We had already made a reservation here about 3 months ago - we actually come from Berlin and spent the weekend in Amsterdam. It was my girlfriend's birthday exactly this weekend. When making the reservation, I also noted that it was my girlfriend's birthday, and we would like to have a nice seating plan.

When we arrived, everything was fine. We were seated at a table of 4 even though we were 2 people. I thought that was good too. The place was also quiet. After the starter, 1 large bruschetta (for 10 euros!!!) we ordered the steaks. My girlfriend ordered medium, and I ordered done. When we got the steaks, I discovered that my steak was literally charred. Really black and it tasted like coal. After the complaint I of course had to wait and my girlfriend already had her steak eaten, otherwise it would be too cold if she had waited for me. In addition, we only received one portion of fries, even though we were entitled to two portions. The reason is: You can reorder the fries for free at any time. But I don't want to reorder every time ☹. I also ordered grilled vegetables, but the vegetables were not good and the zucchini and eggplant were really still raw. When I received my steak, my girlfriend had already finished her meal, and we couldn't eat together. The evening cost me 110 euros and I felt like my stomach was full of fries. Our evening was completely ruined, and the mood was really bad. Not even a warm congratulations from the waiters on my girlfriend's birthday even though I had mentioned it when making the reservation. I would prefer to give it a -5. You can't do that to...

Made a reservation for 2 at 9pm. Arrived on time but the staff weren’t aware of our reservation. Someone greeted us and said that a colleague would seat us momentarily. After standing around for about 5 minutes, the bartender must have noticed we needed help and sat us himself. We then waited about 15 more minutes for a server to notice we had not been given menus yet. They apologized and quickly gave us a food menu but no drink menu. Luckily we had looked at the drink menu online so we knew what we wanted to order when another server came by to take our order. Our drinks came promptly but we sat and watched for over an hour as multiple other parties came in, were seated, food delivered and finished and left before we received our appetizer of scallops. We flagged down the server and he said our main dishes would be out shortly. We let him know we had not yet received our scallops appetizer and he apologized and seemed surprised. He said the scallops would be out shortly and we requested he hold the main dishes while we ate the scallops. The scallops soon arrived but another server brought out our main dishes before we could begin eating the appetizer. We asked for two more drinks and the wrong beer was delivered. When asking for the check, we were told to pay at the bar for some reason however everyone around us had been paying at their table. We left totally confused at the experience and have no idea why the service was so poor. The food was amazing though, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars...

This restaurant looked nice from the outside and the menu was appealing, so we came here for lunch on a quiet afternoon. Server was taking a personal call so took a while to seat us/bring us menus etc. but I had the best baked camembert of my life here, it was so delicious, not a hint of acridity that you sometimes experience with this dish. The bread that accompanied it was also amazing, I only wish that I had been given more as I ran out quite quickly and still had a fair amount of cheese left. My partner had eggs benedict and stated that it was delicious, but unfortunately stone cold and found the muffin quite hard to cut through. He ate it anyway as we were on a time crunch and it had taken a while for our meals to be brought out in the first place. My dish was also lukewarm at best, but tasted so good that I didn't complain. I enquired about whether I could order a cocktail on the menu but have it without the alcohol, I was assured that it was possible. However, that drink never appeared and wasn't mentioned by the server again. I wasn't charged for it though and we had water on the table, so it wasn't the end of the world. Atmosphere was lovely, beautiful decor, I liked the music that was played there and the other patrons were all quiet and respectful, unlike some other places that we ate at in the city. We had quite a romantic lunch, all things aside. The bowl of candy delivered to the table with the bill was also a nice touch.

Terrible experience We arrived at 4:30 pm and were told that we can order starters while we wait for their Jasper grill to heat up for main course at 5:30 pm. We waited 45 mins for starters (oysters and beef tartare) to be served. Outer shell of the oysters were not cleaned and the oysters were still attached to the inner shell. There was a hair in one of the oysters - see photo attached. The beef tartare was dark colored, almost purple (perhaps old or not refrigerated). We sent it back and they brought another, pink/red colored which looked and tasted much better. The waiter said perhaps the first one had gone bad! I ordered the wine of the month which was lovely. I ordered a second glass from a different waiter, and was served another wine, it was not the same wine as the first. I asked each of the waiters that served me what wine they gave me, and each had a different response (Chardonnay and Viognier). My boyfriend ordered an angus beef burger, medium rare. The meat did not look like angus (it looked processed), and it was well done. We sent it back. The second one arrived which was also well done, but a bit less done (picture attached). Staff was not welcoming or particularly friendly. Very noisy cleaning up and clanking glasses on the bar. Could hear techno music from kitchen and the lounge music for restaurant. Not a nice experience, and would not recommend this place to anyone!

Arriving for a late dinner, we were quickly greeted and seated per our request at a table outside with a view of the canal. It was a cool evening and we wanted to enjoy the sights and sounds of Amsterdam. We ordered the roasted aubergine (eggplant), a side salad, the 600 gram ribeye for two with fries, and two gin and tonics. The roasted eggplant was amazing. It was served resting on a bed of mixed baby field greens, goat cheese, walnuts and pomegranate seeds. The textures and flavors of the dish work well together. It was delicious. The Hendricks gin and tonics were served with a cucumber garnish that added a nice refreshing flavor to the cocktail. The side salad, steak and fries came out immediately after we polished off the eggplant appetizer. The steak was a perfect medium rare and had just enough fat for a wonderful flavor without being fatty. The fries were crunchy and delicious. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the servers are very helpful. While paying the tab, we struck up a conversation with the staff as the restaurant had closed and they were cleaning up. It turned out we had been speaking with the chef who prepared our meal. He was very friendly and attentive and requested our feedback. It was a delightful conversation. Thank you to Black and Blue for helping to create a perfect evening in Amsterdam for us.
