Spanjer en van Twist is a nice place for lunch under the trees and of course, people watching. It's located right next to one of those side canals, so you'll see tour boats, paddle boats, and all sorts of boats go by.
To start, we tried the bitterballen. I hated it. Since it was my first time trying it, I don't have any others to compare it to, but the gravy inside this one was super thick - almost chunky. I really did not like it at all. It was very difficult for me to stomach one.
For my entree, I went with the burger. I didn't know it had beets in it so if you don't like beets either, make sure you tell them. Other than that, the burger was just okay - nothing to write home about. It was a pretty big portion though.
I'm not sure if there was just one waitress working that day, but the service was really slow. It took forever to place our order, get our order, get our check, etc. It probably wouldn't be the best spot for a meal if you're in a rush. Thankfully, we were not.
I would not come back as the food wasn't that great. I'm sure there are plenty of other places in Amsterdam for a nice...
Read moreThis is the worst experience that I had in Amsterdam. The waitress is slow and not polite, I had to ask for 6, but they give me the reason that they can't make it to the table for 6. It is okay, I sort it out myself to separate my family into 4 and 2; however, she still gives me an impolite eye glance at me. When we wanted to order our food, she just took her own sweet time to clean up the table, the most important thing is that no one is waiting for her to clean the table. It just takes like less than 2 minutes to take my order, but still lack prioritize common sense. I worked as a waitress before, I understand the uneasy of a waitress juggling all the work at the same time. But this is the worst experience that I had to split out to the public, to encourage people not to come to...
Read moreWaited about 15 minutes and we were completely ignored. We finally caught the attention of a server and asked if we would order and he said, "no, not now." Then we are ignored for another ten minutes and finally when the server comes near, I flag him and ask, "can I order now?" Just trying to figure out when is a good time to order. And the server stops and tells me that there is no reason for me to be rude. It's okay for them to be direct, and say, "no, not now" but it's not okay for me to ask, "is now okay?" Not sure if this is just the culture or I just happened to end up at the rudest restaurant in Amsterdam.
After having read some of the reviews below about the terribly rude server, I suspect it's the same waiter....
