The food was kind of hit and miss. Sate was good but more Surinamese style than Indonesian. Tahu gejrot was a fail. The sauce did not resemble tahu gejrot at all & it was far from authentic. It was missing the shallot + tamarind (which are the main ingredients of the sauce). Nasi bakar ayam was good. Just how nasi bakar should be. The special menu: spicy beef. It was a disaster. The meat was tough. There were only a few pieces of meat & most of them were fat only. The nasi daun jeruk that came with it was just okay. Very subtle taste.
The service was pretty standard. It took a long time for the food to arrive on our table. The main courses were not served at the same time.
I understand the concept of the restaurant but the ambiance was not there. It was so noisy, you have to half-scream when talking to others, otherwise you'd hear nothing. There is no ventilation & no signing whatsoever. So many people got confused about where to enter. The guy from the bar/ warung outside had to keep telling people where to go.

Read moreAn absolute gem! When booking the reservation for a friday night, they were super accommodating considering I did not have a phone number that would work with their website. Then when we arrived, got a little lost but one of the servers helped us figure out where to go.
Really cool atmosphere and great service (had a new waiter who was doing a great job!). My partner and I shared a few appetizers and a main, everything reminded me of the food I grew up with. To top it all off the cendol was phenomenal and reminded me of being a kid again with my mom picking some up for me after her work.
This place has great Indonesian food and if I lived in Amsterdam I would be here at least once a month. Oh and the two cocktails we had were out of this world, could easily drink so many of the spekkeok...
Read moreI don't get the hype with this place. Had to leave the restaurant because it was so hot inside we couldn't imagine having dinner there. The server said to choose any table, when we did, instead of saying something like 'this table is reserved' he just said loudly from the bar 'no, no, no' so disrespectful. Or show people to a table that you choose then like in normal restaurants. After that we left. Downstairs the tables are so sticky and no one cleans them.
So yes, we were expecting the 'experience' and nice dinner with good food. We ended up eating Indomie Noodles on a sticky table. At least the servers downstairs were friendly.
I get that it's a more relaxed place but at least it should be clean and treat people...
