Cup a la Cake — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I visited this place for the first time and was trying to understand how things work, I had a few basic questions about the food, like what a “zalm salade” is and whether the “spread of the day” was fresh. Instead of being helpful, the staff was impatient, dismissive, and even sarcastic (telling me the spread was “6 years old”). When I calmly pointed out there was no need to be rude, she remained confrontational.

As an international visitor, I didn’t feel welcomed at all. The attitude came across as unkind and possibly even discriminatory toward people who don’t speak Dutch fluently or are unfamiliar with local norms. The place itself seemed okay, but the staff’s behavior really soured the experience.

Would not recommend if you are expecting kindness, patience, or a welcoming vibe, especially if you’re new...

We had requested a dinosaurus cake as our 2 year old loves dinos for his birthday. The store made us the most beautiful dino cake which was a piece of art. Everyone present not only appreciated the look but also the taste of the cake. It was delicious including the icing and the toppings. We were also late in collecting the cake but the store owners were very kind in keeping their store open for us to be able to collect the cake. Cake was dry and clearly overbaked, cookies were also very overbaked. Contacted the company to get a refund and was told it's my fault I didn't like it because many other people did. I've lived in the Netherlands for 2 years so I'm very accustomed to the "it's the customer's fault" attitude but these are very clearly overbaked, almost burnt. I don't often complain or ask for a refund but I can't even eat the cookies or finish the cake.
