Don't eat here!! We arrived at the restaurant and we greeted with a friendly face but that was the last good thing about this place. It took 30 minutes for them to come and take our order both drinks and food. We then waited a further 40 minutes and then as we were starving asked that if our food wasn't ready that could we have some bread and butter. After they brought us that they then came and told us they'd made a mistake with our order didn't really explain what that problem was and when we asked how long our food was going to be we'd waited over an hour now. They said sorry and that the bread was on the house. We then waited another 15 minutes before the food finally came which was the starters of two soups which were way to hot to eat and had obviously just been poured from a pot so no idea why it'd tasked so long. Then our mains arrived and we were utterly disappointed the food was terrible they poured beef stew that looked almost like dog food over chips, the trio special was three pans of potato mixed with some form of veg and little piece of meat. It tastes bland and like baby food. We only ate the food that we did as we'd been walking round all day and were so hungry. Then we realised it was nearly 10pm and we needed to pick up our luggage before 10 or they would close. So we asked if the dessert we'd ordered could be taken off the bill as we needed to pay and leave. Not then came the next problem,we tried every card we had and they said they didn't take credit card well none of had credit cards when we asked what cards they took the man at the bar said only debit cards so when I asked what kind he got annoyed with me and said debit cards only so I said I have debit mastercard he said no only maestro well none of us had this one type of card they accepted. So when I asked if we can get cash he rudely said where the cash machine was. We paid over 100 euros for the terrible food and left feeling totally ripped off and off we didn't need to leave to collect our luggage I would have stayed to complain as the food was not worth that price at all. Please do...

I wanted an authentic Dutch meal so I stopped by a different restaurant that didn’t give me a great vibe, I had looked up Bistro as my back up (because of the great reviews) and I am sooooo happy the first one didn’t workout. If you are also in between, do not think twice and go to Bistro. I’m a solo traveler and eating alone can be a little awkward sometimes but they made me feel sooooooo welcome the second I sat down. It’s a family business and they truly make you feel like they are welcoming you into their home. I don’t think they take reservations and it’s a small quaint place but if you have to wait, it’s 100% worth it! The bartender is the woman everyone is talking about in the comments with the cool hair - her energy is out of this world amazing. She told me to trust her on my drink and meal choices and I’m glad I did because it was the best meal I had on my 3 week trip. The waiter told me his mom was the chef and he used to eat these foods growing up. It doesn’t get more authentic than that. One of the best experiences I’ve ever...

We will be forever grateful to bistro bij for literally finding a place at the inn on Christmas Eve for this family! It was our good fortune to stumble on this place after visiting the Anne Frank Museum. The proprietress found us a spot amongst the reserved tables, everyone of the waitstaff made us feel welcome, and the food was the perfect homey comfort food we wanted. It was delicious and tasted like mom would make for a family dinner. The five is shared a bowl of the pea soup as a starter which was the perfect introduction to the meal. Delicious! We ordered 2 stampots, grandmas beef stew, the farmers chicken fried steak, and a few sides. You can't miss with any of these dishes, they were all well made and tasty. The only glitch was one of our stampots never arrived, but they were slammed at the time and it turned out we had plenty of food so we didn't bother to call attention to it. This just left us more room to share a dessert. All in all a fantastic and memorable experience for our family on Christmas Eve. Than...

I dare to say one of the best places to eat Dutch food in Amsterdam! - The food is very tasty! The menú has the right amount of options for main dishes, starters, first and second courses. The stampott we had was tasty and the portions are absolutely gigantic! I really struggled to finish it and it never happens to me cos I usually eat a lot. - Prices are actually low considering the amount of food you get and the location of the restaurant. Ratio portion to price is very high, obviously very unusual for restaurants in the city center. - The location is very central, on the Prinsengracht quite close to Dam area. You are quickly connected to many areas of the city center. - The atmosphere inside is super warm and cosy, being a small restaurant perfect for either a couple or a group of friends. - The restaurant is owned and run by a family which is very welcoming and friendly. Great pleasure to interact with them! If you want to eat good Dutch food, this is one of the best restaurants in the city!

Over the weekend - this was the only place that seemed to be quieter for an early dinner involving Dutch meals. The place itself has an interesting atmosphere, little and cozy, with a fun character. I like that the kitchen is somewhat open and you can see the staff making food. All the staff members (I am guessing run by family/close relationships) were superbly friendly and hospitable. Every time they passed they asked how the food was, and had a little conversation. The food itself was served very quickly (bistro after all) and had homely vibes to it - nothing fancy, just the way mum would make it. I had a stamppot for the first time, and it was OK. Had to add a bit of salt - but it's better than having food over-salted! The apple pie was very nice. Price wise - maybe a little bit on the pricier side for what it is, but still an enjoyable experience as a whole.
