Some of our most beautiful memories and special occasions have been celebrated at Kohinoor. This place has authentic Indian food which tastes really delicious. When I compare the taste of Kohinoor’s dishes to that of a good Indian restaurant back home, I have to say Kohinoor would still be the winner. Their high quality of ingredients and the spices they use is probably the reason behind the fresh, tasty and nourishing food they serve. This place is very hygienic, and reasonably priced. Don’t miss out on their desserts.
Their hospitality is an experience in itself! They go to all lengths to make your dining comfortable. They always cater to your taste preferences. I love their dips specially the yoghurt one! If I could give more stars to recommend this restaurant, I would. Don’t miss out on talking to Mr. Singh whenever you visit Kohinoor. His cheerful and welcoming nature and interesting life stories make you feel the comfort of dining at a friend’s home.
I strongly recommend their Samosas, Paneer Masala, Dal Makhani and Chicken Vindaloo. While there are many Indian restaurants in the Netherlands (I’ve tried out many), none of them in my experience have the ‘real desi taste.’ So if like me, you’re an Indian looking for ‘authentic’ Indian food in Amsterdam, you have to give Kohinoor a try. If you’re Dutch and you want to know how ‘real Indian food’ actually tastes, please try dining at Kohinoor!
This place is perfect for celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, or just going out on dinner dates with your partner or friends. It is kid and pet friendly and is very fairly priced. The quality and quantity of their portions is great. You’ll always find this restaurant filled with people laughing and having a good time. They have outdoor seating as well.
PS: Kohinoor always has the best selection of Indian songs playing in the restaurant, which makes for such a pleasant, feel-good dinner playlist! From Mohammad Rafi to Lata Mangeshkar, you will catch yourself humming along with their soothing playlist from...
Read moreI was shocked by the degree of rudeness I was treated with at this place--I was actually treated like I was a piece of garbage by the arrogant waitress who thought she was right about something she wasn't right about. Initially, the service was cold but fine--nothing to really complain about. Then the bill came and I realized they charged me for a piece of naan bread I didn't order. When the bread came with my meal, I simply thought it was part of the meal. I didn't realize they actually charged me for it. When I brought this to the attention of my waitress, she argued with me that I HAD indeed ordered it and that I pointed it out to her. Guess what, I DIDN'T order it and clearly she misunderstood. Then she proceeded to ask, "Why didn't you let me know, then? Why did you eat the bread?" Guess what, lady, I had no idea that you messed up and brought me something I didn't order; I simply thought it was part of the meal. YOUR fault, not mine. But instead of apologizing, the waitress remained very defensive and after she ran my card through the card reader (yes, she took off the bread charge), she simply walked away (more like stormed away) without saying a word. I never even signed the bill, meaning technically I didn't authorize the transaction.
The thing that bothers me the most is that I did absolutely nothing to warrant this kind of treatment. I was nice to this lady and to everyone else inside the restaurant. I simply didn't want to be charged for something I didn't order. But what I got was belligerence at the hands of a woman with a very bad attitude. It amazes me that a person can treat me--a paying customer--like this and not have it on her conscience. Avoid this establishment--clearly they don't value their customers and don't behave humanely toward them.
Additionally, this definitely wasn't the most delicious Indian food I've ever had. It wasn't bad, but I've definitely had better. I'm sure better Indian places exist in Amsterdam (though this place was...
Read moreThis was our second time at Koh-I-Noor, and the first time at their Westermarkt restaurant.
The food was (again) excellent and the staff was very friendly. I like that the staff recommend portion sizes relative to the customer’s group size, so we do not over-order and thus prevent spillage!
There actually is not a dish that I would not recommend, because everything is so unique in taste and meticulously seasoned, they are all so delicious. And I have had my fair share in Indian food in my life.
I love that they give papadums on the house as a pre-starter. The waiter also checked in on us at the end of our meal whether we would like to have Indian chai. Very kind indeed.
The briyanis (veg and non-veg) taste very nice and are well-enough portioned to fill everyone. The naan (we ordered garlic) are also so crunchy and soft at the same time. We ordered masala paneer, where the paneer was nice and soft and very well-seasoned. We ordered chicken vindaloo which was also very nice to taste. For “dessert” we ordered mango lassis, which were very full and rich in taste, and not too sweet. All in all a delicious meal!
The only point of feedback I would give is: please ask every customer how spicy they would like their food. I saw the waiters asking other people how spicy they would like their food, only with us he forgot to ask, I presume. And we like our food very spicy, so that was the only thing we missed unfortunately (especially in the chicken vindaloo). Nevertheless, luckily, the taste of every dish was so nice that we did not have to miss the spiciness too much.
There are a few Indian restaurants in the Netherlands that are this good, and there is a reason Koh-I-Noor is in the top of these restaurants. We do not live in Amsterdam, but we will definitely keep coming back here, as it is...
