Disappointing Experience at Lunch Cafe De Spiegel in Amsterdam

Our recent visit to Lunch Cafe left much to be desired. Upon arriving with a group of three, we were met with rudeness from the staff. Despite there being ample seating available, we were asked to uncomfortably squeeze together in a table of 4 to accommodate additional guests.

Things only escalated when we attempted to place our order. The staff member insisted we purchase drinks before even considering our food order. When we politely requested tap water and explained our intention to order a proper lunch, we were met with hostility. The staff member's insistence on following arbitrary rules, coupled with their rude demeanor, left us feeling unwelcome and disrespected.

When we expressed our dissatisfaction and chose to leave, the staff member's dismissive attitude and laughter only served to exacerbate our frustration.

In a touristic area full with customers, one would expect better treatment and hospitality. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of these expectations. Honestly, I'm torn with this experience. The venue and location are fantastic. Unfortunately the service was less than acceptable.

1. My husband and I were told the table we requested was reserved, but another couple after us was being shown their table when they requested to change and they were seated at the other table that we had initially requested.
2. I ordered a beer that was apparently not available. Once the beer arrived, it was clearly not what I hoped for in flavor profile. When I question the substitution, I was given a very dismissive response. I informed the server that I had an alternative in kind of the beer I originally ordered was not available. In short, the beer I eventually got was DEFINITELY not what I ordered and it was clear that the server was annoyed that I sent the first beer back....now I was supposed to drink whatever...

Extremely rude staff - I needed to ask a few questions about the food for my elderly mother who has special dietary needs, but we were told impatiently by 2 different members of staff that they were too busy to speak to us. I appreciate it’s a busy area, but surely someone could have spared a moment or so to show some patience. Tried to strong arm us into sitting down, but became rude and dismissive when we didn’t want to. Looking at the other reviews we aren’t the only ones to have this experience.
