After entering, we stood waiting by the bar, for there were no employees in sight. After one did appear, she did her best to ignore us until we approached her. We had a reservation, and she told us to go sit down somewhere, so we did.
While we sat, none of the employees paid any attention to us, we were not asked if we wanted a drink or if we wanted something to eat. One of us went to the bar again and asked if we could order, but was just told to go sit back down. Eventually a waitress approached us and asked us whether we wanted to drink something, so we ordered and quickly asked for food too. She left us to get our drinks and brought them back after a bit, but still we got no menus. We had to call a different waiter to us to receive the menus.
Once we had our menus, we were again ignored by all waiters and had to call them over just to be served and be seen. It might just be an Amsterdam custom, but we felt very ignored. After finally getting another waiter over, they told us that the only vegetarian dish on their event menu wasn't in stock. We asked if there was a replacement and they went to ask. They did return eventually, but we could not order until we called over yet another waiter.
When the food eventually arrived, it was surprisingly good! Though the menu listed 'skin on' fries and we received regular ones, the rest was mostly in order. We had thenspareribs, which were great, the beef burger, also great, and the vegetarian goat's cheese salad, which our vegetarian companion did not appreciate as she didn't know what would be in it beforehand and when she received it, it was full of vegetables she does not like. After picking those out of it she barely had any food left, but we had luckily already ordered an extra side of fries for her.
Apart from the salad, the two other dishes had enough food in them and tasted good.
However, because of the waiters ignoring us persistently but serving other customers without them having to specifically call for a waiter, our experience wasn't great.
We understand that there was an event menu, but listing only 1 vegetarian dish (ravioli) and then not even having it in stock was not great... Dessert options were also limited to one dish, which wasn't even a dish many people would like (white chocolate mouse) as opposed to for example some scoops of vanilla icecream. We wound up getting our ice cream somewhere else after paying and leaving the...
Read moreGrolsch Cine Café is a place where I will not be back. Saturday night, after the movie. We ducked into the café for some after-movie-drinks but would consider leaving several times. Their location is great, just next to the movie theater and therefore also within very close walking distance to the train station where two of our group had to go to catch the train. While their cola was nice and cold, and the served a good fresh mint tea, the coffee is to be skipped. It obviously came from a machine which had also not been installed with the proper ratios, resulting in an espresso with a very water-y taste, and the cappuccino was practically a flat white. Far too much milk and barely any foam.
After sitting inside, it took quite a while for the staff to take our orders. It didn't take them long to see us, as they greeted us when walking in, but to actually come to the table and take the orders. After also waiting for quite a bit for our drinks, we asked if something had gone wrong but were told that the wait was long as it was busy. Unfortunately, this was an obvious but bad excuse as the waiting staff consisted of three people and only three tables in the café were actually taken. The second time we wanted to order, the exact same thing happened. It was obviously more important to finish the conversation with the colleague behind the bar than help waiting customers. This attitude was common among the staff; when we wanted to pay, doing so by actually going over to the bar, the conversation with the colleague was casually continued as we stood there for several minutes waiting to be helped. What struck us the most was while we waited, we noticed that the bar was filled to the brink with dirty glasses and trays and there was an actual risk of something falling down. Due to this experience, and the annoyance it caused, I suggest getting a drink...
Read moreNo idea why this place has as many stars as it does. I sat on the terrace attached to the building with friends. It took so long to get even get a menu and then even longer until we were able to order, so we decided to order at the bar. We waved at several waiters many, many times and even called out to them. I would not be surprised if it was our waiter's first week and I considered complaining about him at the bar. Madness, this absolute lack of service. Who on earth trained this guy?? Food was incredibly disappointing and tasted like nothing. I had a burger and the only thing I tasted was the slice of tomato, everything else completely bland. My friends did like their chicken sateh but were also incredibly annoyed with the bad service. None of the meals were worth the price, but the prices made sense for the location and Amsterdam restaurants in general.
Also very disappointing to not see a wheelchair accessible restroom (or if there was, there's no signs). I can walk a few steps up stairs with my rheumatism, but I have friends that need to use a wheelchair so that I something I always pay attention to. Also, we were told to order/get the menu through the qr code sticker on our table but the website it directed to was disabled. Of course, this restaurant doesn't have to do any better because they're in a prime spot to get a ton of customers on the way to their...
