Chips under a chandelier is what you will find at Heertje Friet, a recently opened chip shop on Herengracht canal. Fries come in small, medium and large sizes and there is a good variety of sauces to choose from. Prepared from freshly cut potatoes, the fries are crunchy with a soft centre. There is a limited offering of typical Dutch snacks such as frikandel sausage, croquettes and bitterballen, deep fried meat balls. French fries actually originate from neighbouring Belgium, where, according to historians, potatoes were being fried in the latter part of the 17th century. Today, the Netherlands are the largest supplier of chips in Europe. Competition among chips vendors in Amsterdam is really fierce and there annual competitions for the city's best chip-makers. This Fries place In the center of Amsterdam looks neat from the inside and is literally Amazing! (Located near the DAM SQUARE.) The fries got a crunchy texture on the outside and softness/fluff from the inside. And it was still piping hot when our order was ready, you could tell from the quality of the fries that it was fresh. As a local I usually go to my regular one in Kalverstraat. But thinking about switching to •Heertje Friet•❤ as my new fav in Amsterdam.
Inside the shop you got a huge menu board on the wall to choose your fries size and many sauces. They also have a variety of croquettes (need to go back again to try some out!)

Read moreThe night before I ate here I left the window open before I went to sleep, completely forgetting about the hot temperatures and stagnant water in the canals. I woke up with mosquito bites all over me, morale was low to say the least. I trudged through the city streets in search for something to lift my spirits, I hastily swigged a coffee from the Amnesia Coffeeshop and stumbled upon this establishment a matter of seconds away. Each bite I took rejuvenated me and the trauma of mosquito bites melted away, the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating as well. Ever since this trip, I have visited NL several times and return to eat here each and every time. Much like eating the raw herring, for me it had become a pilgrimage of sorts.
