Visites the World Press Photo exhibition. The exhibition was very interesting. It takes about 2 hours to see the images, to read all the information, and to watch the documentary style research. I found the access to the exhibition tobe quite pricey for what you're getting. Then again, what isn't expensive nowadays. The New Church itself is a beautiful building and is within a short walking distance from Amsterdam Central train station. It has some very interesting features such as graves of important people from the 1800s and 1900s, the artwork and style of the church are very nicely preserved and/or restored. Even on a very warm day, the climate inside the church is pleasant. The quiet inside is a stark contrast of the busy pedestrian areas outside, especially on The Dam, where there are often many many people. The guest shop and reception staff were excellent in providing information, and were very welcoming and friendly. This is not the standard for Amsterdam and I was pleasantly surprised. There was a guided tour that had started just before we arrived: a representative of the world press organization was informing a group of people on certain images, as well as the back stories. It was super interesting, and the gentleman sharing the information was very knowledgeable. Overall I would recommend tl visit the church in itself in case you have no interest in photography or history or some of the influence the media has had and still has on many life changing situation on our planet. However, if you have even the slightest interest in world events, photography, art, politics, etc, then the World Press exhibition will really be educational, eye opening and sometimes confronting. I learned many things and was moved by a lot of the back...

The church is a symbol of Amsterdam’s rising power and spatial expansion in the late Middle Ages. Today, it serves as a national ceremonial site as well as a cultural venue for major exhibitions and concerts. Construction began in 1408, and the church was consecrated in 1409. It suffered from major fires in 1421, 1452, and 1645, after which it was repeatedly rebuilt. The current structure reflects a blend of Late Gothic and Neo-Gothic elements, with a major renovation carried out between 1892 and 1914. Originally a Roman Catholic church, it was converted to Protestant use in 1578. Since the inauguration of King William I in 1814, it has been the site of royal coronations and state weddings, including the 2013 inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. The church is is also the final resting place of several prominent Dutch figures. Among them are the celebrated poet Joost van den Vondel and the famed 17th-century naval admiral Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter. The church also houses the Netherlands’ largest pipe organ, a richly carved pulpit, and a brass...
