Café van Zuylen — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We took a seat outside, no problem. “You’ll have to wait at least 15/20 minutes for your beverage”, no problem. After 40 minutes they bring us water, after another 40 minutes they bring us our appetizer, at this point it started to get cloudy and they asked us to pay anticipated because of the rain (still no food arrived, only a bitten portion and water). We asked many times where our food was “i’ll check in the kitchen now”, no check made, we literally paid for nothing, after almost 2 hours, it started raining, we were still waiting outside (they told us no indoor seats available for 4 and then we literally saw a group of 6 that was took inside to eat without reservation).

Moral of the story: no food, 2 hours COMPLETELY WASTED and they also complained about giving our money back saying “I think you haven’t paid yet”

I really hope this was a special case where the waiters had problems to manage orders, but this experience was a literal horror...

Extremely disappointed with our lunch here. Table of 5 and each ordered different things off the menu. First off, it took over 45 minutes for us to be able to find a waitron to take our order - we asked several times for a waitron to come to our table but they seemed more interested in chatting to each other. When our food did eventually arrive, we noticed that we were missing some items. We made the waitron aware of this (again, very difficult to actually get someone to come over to the table) and we were told that the missing foods were mixed in with the snack baskets we ordered. We had no idea this was the case as the menu didn't describe how many of each item were included. We then explained that our friend ordered separately as she is a vegetarian. We were met with nothing but unhelpfulness and condescension from all the waitrons we dealt with (also some rude comments made in Dutch - little did they know we had Dutch & German speakers...

My experience was just average. While the food was okay, it didn't quite meet my expectations.

One of the things that disappointed me was that I wanted to order fried eggs, but it wasn't an option on the menu. When I asked the server if it was possible to have fried eggs, I was told that it wasn't available. This was a bit of a letdown for me, as I was really in the mood for fried eggs.

As for the food that I did order, it was decent, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. The presentation was okay, but the flavors were not as robust as I was hoping for.

The service was adequate, but not outstanding. The server was polite, but didn't go out of their way to make our experience exceptional. The ambiance of the restaurant was pleasant, but it didn't really make up for the lackluster food...
