We visited this nice restaurant while spending the day in Amsterdam. We arrived around 5:30pm which I though was too early because it was empty. That made me nervous because no one was inside but we were greeted and allowed to choose our table.
The waitress was very nice and explained the menu to us and the specials of the day. She offered us the drinks menu and we started off by ordering some of the house wine. She provided us some crackers, olives and almonds for a snack while we decided what to order. As we went throughout the night, the restaurant started filling with customers so it was definitely popular.
For the appetizer I ordered the serrano jamon with melon and strawberry. The soup was the asparagus with courgette and the main dish was the whole chicken. It took some time to prepare which meant they were cooked to order. The chef/owner himself delivered some of the food and provideds us some chips and vegetables as a compliment.
My companion ordered the escargots, lobster bisque and leg of lamb. All tasted excellent according to him.
In summary, everything tasted excellent. The serrano jamon was greatand pared nicely with the fruit. The soup was very flavorful and the courgettes were a bit sweet. The chicken was the most delicious of all. The skin was crispy while the insides were very juicy. Nothing was over or undercooked. All the flavors were not overpowering and left a great taste.
All in all, for two people we spent around €75 which is not bad considering how great the food and service was. We would definitely recommend this place and visit again...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of eating at Stuivertje in Amsterdam, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. I first heard of this restaurant from a fantastic blog called, "Tales, Tastes, and Travels," whose rave review honestly understated the quality of this restaurant. When we arrived at Stuivertje, our family was immediately welcomed by the staff and escorted to our tables. We enjoyed the escargot as an appetizer which was tasteful and prepared our pallets for the main course we were about to receive. Each dish was wonderfully plated and sooo delectable. We all dug into our food and greedly stole what everybody else had. Overall, I was so thankful to have heard about this restaurant from "Tales, Tastes, and Travels" and will visit both Stuivertje and the blog many more times...
Read moreAn absolute knockout of a bistro. A true neighborhood gem. The atmosphere is warm, quaint and unpretentious. The owner, who also served us this evening, Rachid, is the most charismatic and funny restauranteur I've met possibly ever -- he speaks 11 languages fluently! We had the escargot and prawns to start; my husband had the leg of lamb while I had the duck l'orange. Both were stunning in their own right -- plentiful and flavorful, generous in portion, that struck the right balance between elevated preparation with honest-to-goodness country cooking. Prices were incredibly reasonable for this level of food, and there was no wait (granted, it was a Sunday). Located in the heart of the city, this is a must-stop for anyone's culinary tour...
