Il Panorama — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I was warmly greeted when I arrived and was served quickly and with a smile and the food came out fresh and piping hot. I was confused though as after clearing my plate I was ignored and having heard the waiter offer coffees or desserts to a couple close to me I had been excited upon hearing about the cheesecake! However I couldn’t get a waiter’s attention, I arrived at 530, was done by about 6 and after 40 minutes I caught someone’s eye and asked for the dessert menu. They gave me the menu but didn’t say anything and didn’t come back. 15 minutes later no one had come back and I was getting anxious it was going to be the same length of time again so I went to the till and paid. The person at the till was friendly and nice. Unfortunately all the dessert shops close at 7 when I left, but I did get my fix at the bakery down the street so all was well! Other guests did get offered coffee and dessert, I think it was just bad luck being alone I think I got forgotten perhaps. I don’t typically write reviews, but my experience here was so bad that I want to.

I came here with a friend and I had the burger for 16 euros. The presentation of the burger was sad, and it tasted like it was grilled with old oil on a dirty grill. No fries included, nothing on the side, just a boring looking burger.

My friend had the caesar salad for 16 euros (3 euros for the chicken), and it was without a doubt the saddest excuse for a salad I’ve ever seen. It had nothing to do with a caesar salad (it was literally just lettuce and sauce) and the portion was extremely small, which is probably why they serve bread with it so that you actually have something to eat. Thankfully he ordered some chicken with it, to make it somewhat satisfactory.

Dining in Amsterdam isn’t the cheapest thing, I understand that. But if you’re going to overcharge for a burger and a salad, at least have them be decent. We felt ripped off afterwards and had a bad experience here.

I am giving this restaurant 5/5 stars because of the very helpful staff. I walked into their restaurant as a woman walking through the city alone, I was being harassed/followed by two strange men. The staff welcomed me, allowed me sit, did not insist that I purchase anything (I did, I had an extremely refreshing delicious beer 10/10). They were made aware of the situation, and allowed me to stay in their establishment as long as I liked. The two creeps were staking me out in the place, they circled around the block TWICE, were acting very suspiciously and agressively, the staff then called me a taxi so that I could leave the establishment safely. I wish I had gotten their names, there was one waitress in particular who was so incredibly helpful, truly, she may have saved my life that day.
