If you’re looking for a dining experience that comes with a side of attitude, then look no further than L'Entrecôte et les Dames.
The blonde waitress (read angsty teenager) with the high ponytail who we were cursed with spent the entire evening with a permanent scowl on her face, as if she was auditioning for the role of “Most Unpleasant Server Ever". Her sulky demeanor could rival a teenager denied screen time.
I thought perhaps she was overwhelmed by the table of 10 but quickly realized it was not that as we all ordered the set menu (10 steaks, 9 medium rare, 1 blue and 3 bottles of red wine - see even I still remember!), it was just that she either hated us or the vibe or she really wanted to be throwing a tantrum somewhere else.
Ordering was an exercise in patience as she snapped at us like we were interrupting her TikTok browsing. When she did grace us with her presence to offer us more steak and chips (which is really a nice touch!), if we said "yes" she just ignored those of us she deemed "unworthy".
An interesting aside, when we asked the other waitress and night manager (who were both lovely) if we did something wrong, they said she is prone to "tendencies". Well, if only I could use that excuse at my job to act like an infant!
Again, the food was delicious and the other waitress and night manager were really lovely and tried to redeem my birthday dinner by comping the dessert, which was very appreciated as blondie was staring daggers at us from the bar. It did, however, make me feel young again on my birthday to have the high school mean-girl glaring at me, felt like old times!
So, if you’re in the mood for delicious food and to be served by someone who embodies a privileged, petulant child who acts as though she must be related to royalty, I know just the place and just the waitress!
A word of advice to the restaurant: if you read the other reviews (as I have) you will notice a pattern about an unfriendly waitress, I have graciously sniffed her out for you, let her go work at FEBO before she ruins...
Read morePrice Vs Value is totally out of balance here. Food was nothing more than ordinary but prices were quite high (even for a touristic location in Amsterdam).
I ordered the main option in the Menu which comprised a very simple lettuce salad with a dressing and some nuts as a starter and then the entrecôte with fries. Salad tasted like a AH “ready to go” salad and the main dish was ok (it is very difficult to go wrong with an entrecôte and fries), but the portion looked more like a kids menu. Meat was correctly cooked (medium rare) and the sauce okaysh. I would expect more considering the location, the main speciality in the house and the price (31 euros for the “formula” above - not even in Paris @ a touristic location they charge this amount for an entrecôte with fries…)
But the cherry on top of the pie were the wines and the dessert: I really felt drinking wines which were opened for quite some time. I order two glasses of “French” wines (one Ventoux and another from Burgundy) with no soul, volume in the palate and very poor acidity. The dessert was a “mix” of tarte tartin and an apple pastry from an ordinary bakery.
Total bill 78 euros (with tips - waitress was kind 😅) for one person…. After 6 years in the netherlands, I know it is not an easy task to find decent restaurants for affordable prices - even though, with some effort and research you can find much better options within this price range.
All in one:...
Read moreHeads up to anyone from UK coming here thinking it’s going to be anything like the restaurant in the Uk or Paris. This restaurant is prim and proper in its service and I appreciate all the sustainability measures they have in place to not waste food etc but it is a bit much and not well thought about. The waiter asked if I would be eating seconds from the start to avoid wasting food. But I find it ridiculous as I don’t even know if the food is worth eating seconds for firstly. And thinking it was like Uk entrecôte I asked for seconds. The restaurant had many flies which was an initial concern. I found a fly already chilling in my empty glass at the table. The food arrived and was absolutely shocking for an Entrecôte. The chips not the same at all the meat not even tender it was tough and no where near close to entrecôte’s in other European cities the sauce was also served separately and not on the meat and was thinner in consistency. The bread was served with butter and much thinner cuts of baguette. The salad was relatively larger and no they didn’t have their homemade mustard. It was more like a salad cream sauce. I was actually left speechless and decided to not stay much longer paid the bill and left quite...
