For Amsterdam, a really nice south Italian style restaurant. I've eaten quite a lot in Sicily, and wouldn't call this a sicilian style restaurant given that there were very little to none pistachios, citruses and fennel on the menu. I ate seafood pasta which was nice, but now typical for mainland Italy, my partner had oven baked gnocchi, also nice, but a dish I never saw on the island of Sicily. The Canolo was really authentic with well prepared ricotta, but was served with chocolate as the only alternative, no pistachio, no orange peel. Lastly, little to no wine originated in Sicily, which is a shame because Sicilian wines are really worthwhile drinking, especially those from Etna. Price wise balanced and the service and hospitality was very nice. Very quick and efficient kitchen, something I appreciated a lot....

The place is small and unassuming, in a quiet neighborhood. All the dishes on the menu are southern Italian specialties and everything I ate was excellent. The dishes have the taste of home cooking, without experiments or exotic mixtures. The wine I had, superb, at a very reasonable price. And very important! The service, by Amsterdam standards, was lightning fast. Between the first and the second course we did not have to wait for ages, as is often the case in other restaurants in that city. That is a detail that I and my companions deeply...

The interior isn't exactly at the level you would expect from a midrange price level restaurant. However. All that they lack in style and location they make up for in cooking. To me this was as close to a real Sicilian restaurant I ever got in Amsterdam. It was really quite delicious. For instance I had a simple parmigiana di melanzane, a dish with simple ingredients. A bad cook can't hide with this dish because it all depends on the skill. And at due sicilie it was excellent. So, not a cheap restaurant, not a romantic place, but just excellent food. Go. You will...
