Lebkov & Sons Bijlmer Arena — Restaurant in Amsterdam

My friend told me to get the small cappuccino, as the caffeine content in it would be more than enough to last me a bit. I ordered another one later but the warning was understandable, a coffee this strong needs to be sipped and had I ordered a larger one it would have been bold by the time I finished it.

We ordered the goat cheese sandwich and the salmon sandwich, after which we had a very nice conversation about flavour-combinations with the girl behind the counter. The conversation showed that the staff truly does not only prepare the sandwiches by order, they also really know their products and the combinations are made with thought and precision. The wasabimayonaise in my sandwich kind of gave me a kick, more than expected, so if you don't want anything spicy please be warned. I expected less of a burn, making me realise that even this product is partly handmade. I have some wasabimayonaise at home, and it isn't this strong.

The only downside to this place are the tables. The shop consists of a large, very open and well lighted space. When looking inside you hardly notice if it's crowded, and it gives off very little vibe to interpret. However, as you get inside you immediately notice it is quite peaceful. Nice and warm, while also very pleasant on a cold but sunny day as you can see the blue sky from every seat you pick thanks to the large windows. However, the chairs are stuck to the ground and therefore cannot be moved closer to the table. I'm a tad small so this resulted in my feet hanging quite a bit above the ground, which isn't nice if you sit for a longer time, and the table being a little bit far away to eat my sandwich in a...

What can I say - the only reason this place gets any business is because of the location. (Tourists staying nearby and caffeine addicts like myself that work in offices in the area). I’ll start with the good- the cakes and croissants are decent. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Now the ‘not-so-good’ - unfortunately almost everything else. The staff often behaves like they have no desire to be there - it’s very rare to get a please/thank you, mostly just a blank stare. Despite the fact that they make probably hundreds of coffees a day, they make little effort to make them well - milk is always under/oversteamed and it just mostly seems to be made in a rush. For comparable prices you can get an expertly made coffee from specialty beans anywhere in central AMS. Sandwiches are small and imho relatively pricy. It’s quite disappointing, really - the potential is all there, it just seems wasted away. I’d say avoid, but unfortunately there aren’t a lot of options...

Erg om te zeggen maar zelfs 1 ster is er 1 teveel. Ongelooflijk dat mensen hier 4 of 5 sterren aan geven. Wij kwamen aan voor ontbijt/lunch. BLT sandwich, groene thee, spicy chicken hot toast en een latte was de wens. Geen koffie ivm een detective machine, kan gebeuren, rot voor de zaak. Dan maar een sinaasappelsap, helaas ook niet verkrijgbaar. Dan maar een ice tea peer flavour, ook die was er niet. Wel Mango, dan die maar genomen. Geholpen door een aardige meid. Haar kleding zat echter van onder tot boven onder de etensresten (het was 12.00 uur). Waar je verwacht direct een kop thee mee te krijgen bij het bestellen hebben wij hier heel lang op moeten wachten. Ik kreeg ook na lang wachten, zeker 20 minuten mijn sandwich blt. Deze was koud. Het brood was oud, zéker niet vers. Wat ik normaal aan de vogels zou voeren. Hard en droog. Er zaten 2 reststukjes tomaat op, een klein beetje bacon en veel gewone sla met wat saus. Daarna kwam de thee en de ice tea mango. Mijn zoon had nog steeds zijn hot toast niet. Deze kwam nog eens 5 tot 10 minuten later. Deze was redelijk maar zeker niet geweldig en wel karig te noemen. Dit “alles” voor dik €22,- . De zaak is smoezelig. Er lagen etensresten op de grond, de tafels waren plakkerig. Boekjes lageren verspreid over de tafels allemaal plakkerig ook nog. Op de lange tafel zat ook een enorme opgedroogde koffievlek van zeker 7x15 cm. Aangezien hij opgedroogd was en de koffieautomaat defect was moet dit dus een hele oude vlek zijn geweest. Eten wordt geserveerd op gevangenisservies oftewel rvs borden en beker voor de ice tea. Las ik in een recensie dat ze blij waren met keramische mokken voor de koffie?! Ik kreeg thee uit een paper cup. We kregen geen bestek om mee te eten, misschien niet nodig maar het aanbod werd ook niet gedaan. Super traag personeel, op zich wel vriendelijk, maar niet gewend lijkt het om hard te werken. Het was zeer rustig in de zaak, maar lang gewacht op het eten dat niet samen werd geserveerd en de drankjes werden nog later geserveerd dan de eerste slappe sandwich. Je zou verwachten dat als er niet veel te doen is dat de zaak wordt schoongehouden. We hebben gegeten ivm trek en een lange terugreis naar huis voor de boeg.

Voor ons een absolute no go meer in de toekomst. Zwaar teleurstellend. Ik zou zeggen loop iets verder Bijlmer in en je eet...
