I was looking forward going to De Wijn Kaart. As a certified wine enthusiast, the wines on offer are exotic and attractive.
The food exceeded my expectations, making the wine and food offer excellent.
However, what was supposed to be an amazing evening wasn't so because of the service. Initially, we were told "No wine flights available" in a far from apologetic manner, saying they were too busy to do so. As a wine bar, one of the main reasons for going there was tasting as many wines as possible, that's why the intention of ordering some flights.
It wasn't only that we couldn't, it was how there was not even a simple "sorry" about it. The rest of the service was clumsy. The wines were served without showing them to us in advance, or offering a sample first. Overall, the service and wine etiquette weren't on the same level as the menu and the decoration of the place was.
It's a pity because I thought this could be a lovely spot to visit frequently, but if on a Thursday night when not all tables were full, the service was overwhelm, I don't want to be there on a...
Read moreFantastic place to grab a bite and enjoy wonderful new interesting wines. This place offers a special wine menu that serves all its wines by the glass. They specialise in Eastern European wines, which makes it the perfect place if you want to try a Georgian Saperavi or a Hungarian Tokaji Aszu.
Next to this, the food is spectacular. I noticed that the bites we ordered were served in the best order to pair with our wine and were of high quality. The main course was sublime: I chose the Guinea Fowl and the meat was juicy, the vegetables were full of flavour, and the sauces complimented the food.
The service was great as well, with the waiter providing some background on each wine and responding quickly on eye-contact.
All in all, De Wijnkaart (Dutch for "the wine menu") is a pearl. If you like a wine bar like GlouGlou in the Pijp, this restaurant will be your next favourite thing... as the food is just wonderful and the...
Read moreI love this place for its atmosphere - youâre sitting amongst beautiful architecture and greenery in a tranquil Amsterdam street. Service is good, with attentive staff. Wine selection is also very good and extensive. When it comes to food, the combination of ingredients is good , the menu is well put together but the portions are really really tiny. Though Holland is known for small portions, this is really small. Youâd have to order 2-3 main dishes next to an appetizer to have a proper meal. And itâs not a food sharing conceptâŚI believe this leave a customer unsatisfied because either they didnât eat well or they had to spend much more money than the menu would suggest. Perhaps an approach is to have a sharing portion or for few extra bucks a normal size main course portion. The beautiful place like this one deserves to have top...
