I remember having eaten here a couple of years ago and left a raving review for that visit (this is an edited review - the original is left below). Came back with my gf.. but my high expectations based on memory .. unfortunately weren't met this time. Quite the opposite.
Perhaps there's a new cook (?) but either way, gone was the freshness of the food and the balance of ingredients and carefully calibrated spiciness that I found to be so striking and tasteful first time around. The soup tasted ok but - as with the main courses - it did not give the "wow I taste fresh ingredients- sensation" I remember getting the first time. It seemed great when we read the dishes on the menu, but when it was presented .. and tasted.. not so much. Chicken drenched in orange sauce that had an overpowering taste of cream.. sprinkled with peanuts. I ordered something with shrimps.. but with only 1 in it, it made up for a disappointing dish as well. The shrimp dish was supposed to be spicy with the two pepper symbol on the menu card; but when the spiciness is defined by your willingness to eat big chunks of red pepper lazily thrown in food that isn't that spicy .. there's a commitment to making food taste good.. that's lacking. Even if the prices were incredibly low - which they weren't - , I would not be happy with what I ate here.. but the - perhaps inevitable but certainly noticeable - price increase.. made me evaluate things even less forgivingly. On top of all that; the food didn't digest well at all and I was happy to be home not much later.. eh.. let me put it like that.
For the record, below is my initial positive (5*) review from 2 years ago.
Didn't expect it in a part of town that is full of tourist traps but this is hands down the best Thai in town!. The food tasted fresh and was made with care and attention for balance in flavors.. it tastes rich, with the right amount of spiciness (the waiter asked for the preferred level of it so you can go overboard if you want/dare haha). My table mate agreed with me wholeheartedly so this turned out to be a great start of the evening. The price is also as honest as the food; no inflated bs... just excellent food in a vibrant part of town. The place is small and can't accommodate large groups.. but do check them out if you...
Read moreI am posting this review because I had posted on TripAdvisor previously, and instead apologizing for the poor experience, they responded by accusing me of posting a ridiculous review full of lies.
We are a couple and we were looking for a nice place to have some Thai food on a Saturday night. When we entered asking if there was a table for two available, we were told to wait 5 minutes. So, we waited outside. Another couple were leaving, so we chatted to them about their meal and we asked what they would recommend. After a few minutes, we went inside again and we were aggressively waved away and told they were closed. I was left quite shocked and confused. At most, we had maybe been 7-8 minutes, but also nobody had mentioned to us that the table was ready, or not ready. So, I don't know what happened here. But, I was mostly surprised at the anger and aggressiveness, as if we had done something horribly wrong. I posted this on TripAdvisor, and instead of receiving an apology, I was accused of lying. Why would I make this up?
So, I repeat. Do not go here. It's not authentic Thai food, the staff are dreadful (I have been to Thailand, and people are not like that there), and if you want to be aggressively waved away for absolutely no reason at all, well this is your place! We were quite upset by this, and also very hungry. Thankfully, there are many better options for Thai food, and we went to Thaise Snackbar Bird nearby. The staff were fantastic there, and chatted to us quite a lot. We told them about what happened (and they didn't accuse us of lying). Little Thai Prince (maybe replace the word "Prince" with something else).
Also, I want to add that on Tripadvisor they respond to everyone's negative reviews with more rude responses and denials, instead of simply apologizing. I have been to Thailand, and I certainly never met anyone like this there. Shocking people, and a shocking place.
-100 stars, if possible. It almost ruined our night. They should have paid me to eat there and I would have still said no. So glad we didn't actually get to eat any of their...
Read moreOns bezoek aan Little Thai Prince was werkelijk fantastisch!
Zonder twijfel serveert Little Thai Prince het beste Thaise eten in Amsterdam. Voor ongelooflijke smaken, uitstekende service en een warme, gastvrije sfeer is dit de plek waar je moet zijn. Een echte Thaise ervaring buiten Thailand—wij komen zeker terug!
Our visit to Little Thai Prince was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, whose hospitality made us feel like honored guests. His friendliness and passion for authentic Thai cuisine truly set the tone for an unforgettable dining experience—one that transported us straight to Thailand without ever leaving Amsterdam.
We started with the Sate Kai (Chicken Satay), which was grilled to perfection—juicy, tender, and paired with the most flavorful, creamy peanut sauce. Next came the Tom Yum Kai Soup, an explosion of bold flavors, perfectly balancing tangy, spicy, and aromatic notes with fresh herbs, mushrooms, and tender chicken.
For our main courses, we indulged in the Red Coconut Milk Curry with Eggplant, Mushrooms, and Chicken, accompanied by delicious Fried Rice. The curry was rich, creamy, and packed with authentic Thai spices, while the vegetables were cooked to perfection, soaking up all the deep, complex flavors. The fried rice added the perfect texture, enhancing every bite.
We also had the Chicken Curry with White Rice, which was equally incredible. The fragrant curry sauce was expertly balanced—spicy enough to awaken the senses, yet smooth and comforting with its creamy coconut undertones.
Beyond the phenomenal food, the presentation was stunning, and each dish arrived hot and fresh. But what truly made this experience special was the owner’s hospitality. He ensured we felt at home, sharing his love for Thai cuisine and making sure we had an authentic and memorable experience.
Without a doubt, Little Thai Prince serves the best Thai food in Amsterdam. If you’re looking for incredible flavors, outstanding service, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, this is the place to be. A true Thai experience outside of Thailand—we’ll...
