We came here from our stay in Hotel Barbizon, seeking a protein rich dinner. This restaurant is one of many on the mostly pedestrian path Zeedijk, has a nice selection of Argentinian steaks, but doesn’t have an overly complex menu. The restaurant is about two units wide, so not a lot of space, but fits several small tables.
The maître d’ provided us warm and welcoming service in English, with a lovely Dutch (and Argentine?!) accent. We tried the garlic bread and fried squid appetizers, three different kinds of steak—rump (topped with grilled veggie in the photo), ribeye (photo with rice), and filet tenderloin (last steak photo with fries)—with peppercorn sauce, and the pistachio dessert. The steaks were quite tasty, made to the perfect temperature as we requested, one of them with an excellent grilled mixture of vegetables on top, and so was the pistachio pie that came highly recommended by the maître d’, so we really wanted to give this place a superb rating. However, the garlic bread was quite plain, and the squid rings mediocre at best. Unfortunately for LSM, we had the contrast of a most delicious calamari from the Seafood Bar the night before, excellently grilled steaks at Gaucho in Leiden before that, and a superb garlic bread at El Mamma in The Hague the evening before that. Given the above, a 4.5 would have been a fair score for this...
Read moreI hate to knock on this place; I do. We stopped in, and apparently, they had already closed the grill, which we only knew once we placed our order.
The shrimp cocktail was different/different than what I expected. It had small shrimp, but it was also a lot of shrimp. The tomato soup was good. The steak is where the issue happened. The Schnitzel was great.
It came out way underdone, was sent back, and was cut down the middle to help girl it faster. The issue is that it came out tasting completely different when they did that so much so that I could not even eat it.
The owner did come over and inquired as to what had happened. I did explain what my perceived issues were. He was very sympathetic, acknowledged issues, and tried to fix what had happened.
I appreciate the owner and the...
Read moreI had an interesting experience here. The waiter was the bartender, host and chef. We never saw any other employee in that restaurant. He kept disappearing down a weird staircase and would return much later with food items that had no smell. It was strange. The food taste okay and the seating was minimal.
Edit: No I will not remove my review. It was definitely this place. We set right next to the bar in a little corner. This photo I borrowed from another reviewer shows where I sat. There were probably only about 8 - 10 tables in the whole place. One was long and between two pillars and I remember thinking "how can people sit there comfortably." Maybe the waiter didn't technically have so many jobs, but he did that night. We never saw any other employee on...
