I had a dinner tonight at Venus & Adonis restaurant in the area of the 9 streets in Amsterdam. I had to compromise and seat downstaris as even though I booked a table the guy who welcomed me said that the main (street level) area is booked. I was the 1st guest that was seated downstairs and was served by a lady. The only one in the shift with the other waiter I've mentionef. She asked if I want water and I said I want simple tap water. It took about 20-30 min to get my starter which was Salsify with smoked almonds - you get exactly 3 roots of vegetale (12€), my main course arrived 30 min later and was Redfish with mousseline, leek bisque (28€). The fish wasn't seassoned at all and was tasteless, and there wasn't any salt & pepper mills on my table. As the lady waiter went off to serve other tables in the main upstsires area, and I want to eat my dish as it was getting cold, I went to the next empty table, took the peper mill but it was emty, I had no choice and asked 2 ladies that were sitting next to my table if I can take their salt & pepper mills which were empty too. The lady waiter came back to my table and I told her that I nead seasoning. She took the empty pepper mill and served other tables instead of taking care about me. It took her a good few minutes later to bring a pepper & salt mill but my dish was already cold. When I finished I asked for the bill and it took good few minutes again to get it. To my surprise they charged me 3 € for "watter service"and when I asked why (as I asked for tap water and she didn't mention they will charge me) she answered we charge for "filltered water"... My overall experiense wasn't good at all. I would not go back or recommand this restaurant at all. Service was slow, not attentive, and overall you don't get value...
Read moreThe food may look delicious in photos but don’t let that fool you. I can’t recommend spending your money at this restaurant! I had high hopes after reading about the team and how they have high quality female meat.
I made a reservation online and it asked about allergies, in which I wrote down those allergies and requested a table at the window. Upon arrival, they didn’t want to sit us at the front window even though it was available and we requested it. They eventually changed their mind and allowed us. Then they didn’t even know about my husband’s allergies. Needless to say, they didn’t care to look at reservation notes.
Service was terrible for us, but everyone around us was getting much more attention. We had 4 to 5 different staff come wait on us. It may sound like a lot of service, but we didn’t get quality service, and it was over a long period of time. They brought menus to others who sat after us and we still had to wait 15mins longer. They forgot our water. They brought the menu to us twice after already ordering. It took almost an hour to get 1 cocktail, to the point our food was going to arrive before the cocktail. We waited even longer for the food and everyone that sat way after us got their food first. Finally was able to eat! The plating was pretty but my swordfish was so dry and there was absolutely no flavor even with their sauce. My husband’s steak was also over cooked and super dry. The only redeemable thing was the oysters and my cocktail was tasty. We did not enjoy our first experience here, and we won’t...
Read moreThe pumpkin soup was really nice one . But the attitude of waiter really not pleasant. When I was walking down the street, I did an ask , out of 14people only 2 said that iberico is a type of pork ham. I mean, your funny answer it's completely absurd that the whole world knows what iberico is about. And when you told it's not McDonald's. I don't eat in such places. If Toro Dorado is the same for you as McDonald, then everything is clear! If you can't make the menu more professionally, it's not my fault. I asked what ingredients are in this dish. I got an answer that there are pear and almonds. And in the first course when you say it's a lobster soup and in fact there's not a gram of lobster - but only broth from it. And I haven't tried a drop, but replaced it with another soup. The potatoes were very salty. This is the first time I've met such unpleasant waiters. Amsterdam has many fish restaurants, and there is always an understanding between each other in good places. The only thing I'll note once again is pumpkin soup, it was really great. I'm always in favour of justice...
