Restaurant & Pizzeria Lucca Due — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I really do not like to write negative reviews, because I know people that are working in most restaurants really do their best. However, I do feel the need to express myself regarding what happened for us (me and a friend of mine) here.

The restaurant did not meet our expectations at all, sadly. With over a thousand of 5 star reviews, we were over the course of this evening, actually wondering if these reviews were placed by bots. The reason for this is as follows:

We placed a reservation at 20:00. When we got there, we got ignored for a couple of minutes (understandable, it is busy) but the waiters did not even give a nod or sign to us. They just walked right past us. When I then told them that I made a reservation they told me they were delayed and that we needed to wait. That’s fine, it can happen. However, there is not really a good spot to wait because this is a very small restaurant, so we were actually standing in the way of the waiters brining in plates full of food.

It’s not a great start of the evening, but as said, it can happen some times and is not a big deal. Then we got seated next to a couple. Because this is a very small restaurant, you can practically hear what they are saying because they are basically sitting right next to you. We placed our order and after waiting for a long time, I got my food. The couple at the table next to us also got a pizza. My friend still hadn’t gotten anything by the time I finished my pasta (which was delicious, by the way, but not a lot), even though the waiter said it would be there soon. Then we asked after some more minutes (20/30 min) where the food was, and apparently the table next to us also hadn’t gotten everything yet. Turns out, they had forgotten it and would be back soon. Then they brought the wrong order (mixed up the two tables earlier, so the table that got their pizza when I got my food actually got my friends pizza).

All right, even this can happen. But when we asked for desserts it also took a really long time and it was not even that busy anymore by then. I asked for a cake which was basically ready in advance, but also had to wait more than 20 minutes and then it turned out that they had also forgotten about that. And the tap water we asked for, was also forgotten somehow, even though I heard them repeat my order and they wrote it down.

It did not help that the waiters were different ones each time, so they were not assigned specific tables. That way, they do not really know that much and apparently do not communicate to each other. Some of them do, and some don’t speak Dutch, so that is confusing as well. Besides, there was one waitress that was talking badly about customers at the table next to us. Definitely not a friendly vibe.

All in all this is really not a restaurant I would come back to or recommend, even though the food and...

Might be fine if you're white, avoid this place if you're not

My wife (White female) and I (Indian male) are visiting Amsterdam and decided to go this place tonight for dinner after reading good reviews on Google. The place was busy when we entered and the host seemed to be away helping someone else and the bartender was taking payment from a guest. So, we waited patiently for several minutes to be seated, no big deal so far.

Eventually, quite the crowd gathered behind us (10 people or so) and we all waited patiently. Once the bartender was done checking out the guest, she walked towards us and we thought she'd talk to us. She didn't make eye contact with us and instead talked to the couple behind us (both white). I was surprised, but I didn't say anything.

The host came by and finally acknowledged us and told us we'd have to wait at the bar for a table. Again, totally understandable and we didn't mind. I was looking forward to ordering a beer. We waited for the bartender.

Once she was done talking to the host, she walked right past my wife and I sitting at the bar, never making eye contact and asked a guy (white male) sitting next to us what he wanted. At this point, I had enough and we left.

We instead ate at Eat Palaza Center down the road. Service was great and so was the food. we highly recommend that place.

Vote with your money and go there instead.

I want to rate this restaurant 5 stars. My wife and I have eaten here several times over the past 5-6 years and the overall experience and especially the food was excellent.

Our last visit, on 22, August, 2024 was quite different. We never received our two appetizer orders and after a nearly 35 minute wait, the manager (?) came to our table to ask if everything was alright. We inquired about our appetizers; she checked and informed us that we had only ordered them 7 minutes earlier. We corrected her and she again investigated.

Upon returning, she informed us that our appetizers were delivered to the table next to us and apparently they happily devoured the two starters they hadn't ordered (side note: who does that? most reasonable people would question why they were delivered items they hadn't ordered). The manager (?) also informed us that our pasta main dishes were ready, so we elected to skip the appetizers we had looked forward to for (literally) months.

We were offered a dessert on the house, but had to decline as we do not eat sweets. When paying, we found that they didn't charge for our wine or beer, so they certainly made an attempt to correct their mistake.

Many people might rate an experience like ours a 1 or 2 star, but IMHO, the food here (especially the starters and many pastas) are simply delicious, so I'll reduce what should have been 5 stars by 1 star for the unfortunate error that just...
