For the most part, we had a great meal and experience. We were greeted promptly, the waitress took our jackets, and our table was ready for us immediately. We were quickly waited on, they brought a lovely amuse bouche, and we enjoyed the start of our meal. We ordered a Negroni and Zaza’s mule. Negroni was great, mule was decent. The Turkish bread and aioli was fresh and light. We ordered the pea and leek tartlet and the “thinly sliced” cured beef to start. The tartlet was great. The cured beef was not. It could be given the accompaniments, but our piece was quite chewy. It was the worst part of our meal, and when we brought it up to our waitress she apologized and said she would speak with the chef. A more mature waitress came out, but she had quite a condescending attitude, assuring us as if we were in preschool that we didn’t know what we were ordering and this is how this was supposed to be. No apology, no offer for anything else, and the dish that we barely touched was taken away and still charged to our final bill. £14.50 for nothing. This was the worst part of our dinner. We followed this with the half portion of ravioli, to die for, and the veal, which was cooked perfectly and was nicely accompanied by the parsnip purée. We finished with the bread pudding, which was perfect. All in all, we had a nice time with our own company and the dishes and service that were good, but that one minor part of our meal really didn’t match the rest of the experience. Disappointing for a place that was nailing it on...
Read moreThis restaurant has been on my bookmarked list for a while, and yesterday 4 of us finally were able to dine there. We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and on Monday night all tables were reserved and I saw patrons being turned away. Our friends have a few digestive problems (lactose intolerance), so as we all placed an order for dinner, 4 main courses and 2 appetizers, the waiter run to the kitchen 3-4 times to double check that they can consume the food they ordered. It was sweet, but not efficient. He should have just asked the kitchen staff on what items have no lactose and came back to us with findings... anyway, it took him an hour to coordinate with the kitchen and our table. Again, sweet but unnecessary.
It took another hour for us to receive our dinner, that 8:30 pm already. And instead of venison that I ordered, he brought me a fish. Sent it back and now another 20 minutes we are waiting for my dish. Friends ate their meal and I am sitting hungry. Venison was alright by the time they brought it. I was crying inside because of hunger. I finally ate at 9:10pm after arriving at the restaurant at 6:45pm. Overall its an ok meal, nothing to rave about, nor remember, besides the meal screw up. I don't recommend this place.

Read moreDue to my planned engagement in Amsterdam, I was looking for a very good and small restaurant in Amsterdam. Because I had already lived in Amsterdam for 6 months, "de Pijp" immediately came to mind. I quickly found what I was looking for with the restaurant Zazas.
I booked a table for two and even liked the fact that I had to pay a deposit so that I was committed to coming. This way, the restaurant can plan ahead and of course maintain a certain quality.
From start to finish, we were absolutely thrilled. The service was very, very friendly and courteous and not too serious or classy in any way. There was a very friendly, relaxed manner and atmosphere throughout the restaurant. Before the meal, there was a greeting from the kitchen and some bread, both very tasty and attentive.
For starters, we chose the tuna tartare and a dish with goat cheese, both of which were excellent, super tasty and beautifully presented. For the main course, we chose the grilled rib eye and a chicken dish.
The conclusion is: A very highly recommended restaurant where you are treated and served in a familiar and upscale way. The choice of dishes is very select but also very high quality.
When we're back in Amsterdam, we'll be back, not least because we're linking it to...
