Even though it may be true that this is the most authentic Mexican food restaurant in the area, it is still disappointing in terms of taste. We tried the cactus, pork, and chicken tacos. The cactus was cold and pickled like it had come out of a jar. It was a very soggy mix, so soggy that it got the tortilla very wet and torn which was not appealing. The chicken and pork were both shredded meat and had the appearance and texture of being stewed meat. Not the worst we’ve had, but also not the best. I was surprised they didn’t have the very popular street tacos like Al Pastor or Carnitas (in the style with the crispy bits). I really appreciated that they made homemade chips, it makes all the difference and they were delicious. The guacamole was also great and well-made. However the guacamole was on the small side, even though we ordered a large. The option of the three salsas was also very nice, however, they tasted like they were watered down. Maybe this is to accommodate the Dutch market, not sure. I was sad that there was not a sampler platter available where I could try one item from each type of food. For example, a plate having two tacos, one quesadilla, one tostada, and one enmolada would have been perfect. Or perhaps a build your own sharing platter for two or more people would also be great for people who come in groups and want to try everything. I did consider the combo option, however, it only included tacos. I know your kitchen is small, but perhaps consider serving margaritas or some specialty drinks. These will be very popular, and you could make a higher profit margin on these so you can offer more value for some food items instead. Also, please consider grilling the cactus instead of taking it out of a jar. I’m giving this four stars because I appreciate your effort to create a more authentic Mexican food restaurant in an area that is seriously lacking, however, I do think there is room for improvement. Thank you for serving us at...
Read moreI order the chicken tostadas, and it was pretty much lettuce. Barely any chicken. Tbh it was just the shell, beans a tablespoon of chicken and all lettuce. I wouldn’t recommend this. I order this 3 times for benefit of the doubt but each time was like this. Not worth the amount. Since there is not much pollo in the pollo tostadas
The chicken tinga tacos are worth it. Way More chicken and love the spice. The spice stands out since that’s kinda hard to find out here so enjoyed that the most. Kinda reminds me of Tijuana street tacos with the serving size so can’t complain.
The enchiladamole didn’t really have any flavor other than the mole and the tortilla didn’t even seem really cooked. Maybe heated up for 30 seconds but yeah. Mole was the standout for this dish could barely tell the flavor of the chicken. It was more plan. Mixed with the mild sauce is really good. But would give it a 3/5.
Their mild red sauce honestly perfection. Pairs well with any of the food reviewed.
I’m from California, Mexican American myself, and was excited to find Mexican food here but was kinda lacking in some areas. So it’s good for where it’s at I guess.
Truly just recommend the chicken tinga tacos. Nothing else.
I ordered through delivery so not sure of the service or atmosphere of...
Read moreI had been living in the region for quite some time so my expectations of eating “real Mexican “ were not high since when visiting JITOMATO. I’m used to the usual Tex-Mex versions of dishes or the adapting to local ingredients and I wanted to try this restaurant due the high ratings on Google but unfortunately the food was not great. The service and place were good but other than I wouldn’t recommend eating here. There were few issues with the food but mainly the tortillas were cold in all the tacos we ordered (the place was not busy so don’t understand what happened there), the portions were also quite small versus the size and price of the order, and finally the taste was not great. We had some side dishes and unfortunately we were also not impressed by them. As I mentioned before we weren’t expecting real Mexican (as advertised) but this was far from “real”. Btw from 4 options of tacos only 3...
