There are not many restaurants near Front Street open for dinner in Philipsburg. Luckily Ananda was. And what a dinner it was. We love the Northern Indian kitchen, all the familiar dishes were on the menu, and more!
We started with samosas, nice thin crust, lots of filling, and my favorite cilantro green chutney. Then we had butter chicken, aloo gobi, dal tarka, all served with basmati rice and plain naan. The naan by itself, fresh chewy and blistered hot from the tandoor, is worth visiting this restaurant. The butter chicken and dal were good. The humble aloo gobi, (a dry potato and cauliflower curry) was of a different level. The smokey roasted cauliflower, combined with the toasted cumin and other spices give the veggies an extra dimension. For us it was the best dish of the evening!

The only element I missed was a masala chai tea but I did try the Bombay soda which was new to me and quite tasty and refreshing, like a savory soda.

The service was excellent. We spent about $100 with tip and have plenty left over for lunch and dinner tomorrow! 😍
Update: We DID go back and he DID make us Masala Chai tea that was perfectly spiced! This time we had delicious veggie pakora and spicy lamb that had a delightful dry rub of spice in addition to the...
