Because I think it’s important to highlight excellent local businesses, this post comes after the cruise once I’ve had time to write a review worthy of the experience we had at the Lazy Lizard. So many times when you get off the boat in the cruise ports you are literally bombarded with very aggressive individuals wanting your time and money for experiences. I understand the hustle but sometimes it just overstimulating and I run the other way. That was not the case with the owner, Nik, of the Lazy Lizard. We walked by his restaurant/bar and he was very pleasant and talked to us about his menu. I told him we would be back, which I am sure he hears hundreds times a day and people never return. He was courteous and NEVER pushy. We walked about 50 feet away and something told me to go back. We went back and grabbed a table on the beach and he told us to take our time and order when we were ready because they were still getting things set from the night before. We had a chance to talk with him a lot and watch him engage with the other tourists. Never once was he anything but gracious and pleasant. The menu was outstanding and the drinks were amazing. He brought his son out to help clear the table as we made our way through the meal and drinks. What a well mannered young man. So, friends, if you are travelling to this island, you cannot miss out on this treasure. Once you get off the ferry pier, take a right past all the shopping and his restaurant is on the left almost at the end. My top choices - rum punch and the cauliflower bites with the banana vanilla bbq sauce. Seriously - chef’s kiss!!!!

The Lazy Lizard Beach Bar & Grill, located in St. Maarten, offers a perfect mix of vibrant Caribbean charm and delicious cuisine. As soon as you arrive, you’re greeted with a relaxed atmosphere and scenic views of the beautiful Great Bay Beach, making it an ideal spot to unwind and enjoy a meal by the water. The restaurant’s beachside setting provides a laid-back vibe, enhanced by the friendly and attentive staff, who make you feel welcomed right from the start. The menu features a delightful variety of dishes, with a focus on fresh seafood, Caribbean flavors, and classic comfort food. Whether you’re in the mood for a savory lobster dish, a perfectly grilled burger, or a refreshing salad, there’s something for everyone. Their coconut shrimp and fish tacos are particularly popular, offering a burst of tropical flavor that captures the essence of island dining. The portions are generous, and the presentation is simple yet appealing. One of the highlights is the drink selection, especially the signature cocktails like the Lazy Lizard Rum Punch, which is both refreshing and potent. It’s a great way to cool off on a hot day, and the bartenders craft each drink with care. What makes the Lazy Lizard stand out is not only the food but also the welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re there for a quick lunch, a leisurely dinner, or just drinks by the beach, the experience feels personal and relaxed. Overall, the Lazy Lizard Beach Bar & Grill is a must-visit for anyone looking for a great meal in a casual, beachfront setting in St. Maarten.

Hands down the best food we’ve had on the island! My wife and I got there as they were closing early because they had sold out of nearly everything and their staff had already started prepping for the next day. Thankfully the owner sat us and personally waited our table and gave the best suggestions! My wife had been craving fish tacos, so that is what we both ordered, along with the Voodoo Shrimp for a starter. It was all fresh, excellently prepared and delicious! So good that we are going back tomorrow to sample more of their delicious menu! Let me finish with this. I googled best places to eat on the island and the Lazy Lizard was top 3. I googled best fish tacos and it was number 1. Quite simply put, it is those things for a reason! If you are on the island then you have to check this place out! Thank you for a delicious meal and great conversation! ***Update*** Went back and if it’s possible had another meal that was just as good, if not better than yesterday! The fried calamari appetizer was the best we’ve had. My wife had the Caribbean Curry Chicken, plantains and red beans & rice and she devoured it! I had the Fish of the Day which was Mahi Mahi prepared creole style along with the onion rings and red beans & rice and couldn’t have enjoyed it more! Just do yourself a favor and have a meal or two or three here! We’d go back and sample more before we leave if they were closed tomorrow! Thank you once again for making our culinary experience a great one in St. Maarten!

The best food I have ever had in my entire life was when me and my family went on a cruise to explore the Bahamas, on our trip we had already been to Puerto Rico and Jamaica, the final destination was Saint Martin. When me and my family got off of the boat in our summer attire, we were starving. I could hear my stomach grumbling along with my siblings. I looked around for any restaurants on the small island and low and behold I saw a sign that said "Lazy Lizard" Me and my family went in and I smelled the amazing flavors surrounding the restaurant including the ocean breeze that was blowing through the open atmosphere as well. I looked at the menu and decided to get a burger, I had asked for an iced tea with lemon to go along with my food, something about being on and island and sipping sweet iced tea with the sun shining on a beautiful day made it just taste so much better. I turned and was overly excited to see my plate come to the table, a perfect burger with fries and ketchup was sitting in front of me, I could smell the freshly grilled beef which made my stomach growl even louder, I picked the burger up as it dripped with juices and I bit into it and all I tasted was happiness. The taste of garlic, and paprika, a bit of spice from the ground pepper, along with the crisp and watery lettuce and the sweet flavorful tomato, It didn't taste like a regular burger you get at McDonalds, or Burger King, no- It was the best burger I have ever had. The spices were immaculate, It was like a firework went off in my mouth like the scene from Ratatouille when Remi bit into the cheese and strawberry at the same time. I had finished my burger in a matter of seconds. The fries on my plate didn't even matter, I was still hungry, but only for the burger. My family told me that we could not get another one because we had to go. We left the restaurant and I was devastated that I would never have that burger again since I lived a long boat ride and a couple thousand dollars away. Ever since then I can not eat burgers in the United States, that burger has changed my...
