This place provides Japanese Ramen in “Chinese style”. I’m pretty sure the cook is Chinese. Some waitresses spoke Chinese. Among our group of three we ordered a teriyaki chicken ramen, a spicy shrimp miso ramen and a spicy chicken ramen. Mind the photo, there are Chinese cabbage, bok choi, rather than the dark green seaweed; big rings of Chinese spring onions whereas it’s supposed to be tiny bits of Japanese spring onions; most importantly the spicy miso soup base tastes exactly like Sichuan Dan Dan noodles. Japanese cooks will never put cilantro on Ramen but Chinese cooks love doing so. There is not even a slight hint of miso in the soup to my taste, which I eat miso every day when I’m not travelling. The soup base is just so wrong, it’s not like any traditional Japanese ramen soup base at all. Another disappointment is the misleading poster where I was expecting to be served a glass bottle just like the printing on the card. I think this is deceiving because bottled drinks are different than mixed drinks, especially freshness wise. Lychee soda tasted okay, not salty as claimed though; Yuzu soda tasted somewhat like dish soap to me though. My kid liked the yuzu soda so that was fine.
The food themselves are acceptable, except for my shrimp comes with a hint of lye flavour, which cooks submerge cheap frozen shrimp in such diluted lye solution to get rid of the smell of a freezer and to improve the texture so that they are crispy, then the shrimp would be put in a pot of running water for hours to get rid of that lye taste. That is a popular secret among Chinese cooks. Taste wise food is alright, but these are Chinese noodles, and do ask about allergens if you are allergic to peanuts, because I think I tasted peanuts in my...
Read morewe ( 2 people) arrived and had to wait 15 minutes until we got a seat, then we were finally seated on a table. while we were looking on the menu the waitress came and told us that we can’t have that place anymore because a group of 4 came. of course it makes more sense to give a place for 4 to a bigger group instead of a couple but the waitress at least could have asked nicely. then we were seated on really uncomfortable barstools on which we couldn’t even face each other, and which were also right behind the toilets. we asked if we could be seated anywhere else as soon as a table gets free. After waiting for another 10 minutes the waitress came back again in order to change our place. when we arrived the manager just gave the place to a couple which had just arrived and told us to go back and wait again. In my opinion that was really unfair, instead the couple should have waited since they newly arrived and didn’t even have to wait at all. the manager didn’t even apologize to us and seemingly didn’t even care that’s why we decided to leave. that’s not how you treat costumers, wouldn’t...
Read moreTried Takumi Ramen, one of the most renowned ramen chains in the Netherlands, located in the bustling Markthal, a prime spot near Blaak station in Rotterdam.
I opted for the Black Garlic Kara Ebi Miso Ramen, a distinctive dish featuring black garlic, fried chicken, a shrimp skewer, cabbage, bamboo shoots, and spring onions. The black broth added a unique twist, making it a memorable and flavorful experience.
We also enjoyed the Teriyaki Curry, a delightful Japanese curry rice with teriyaki chicken, wakame salad, and a side soup. It was equally impressive, offering a well-balanced taste. As a side dish, we had the Karage, which was also quite satisfying.
While it may not be the most highly anticipated ramen place, Takumi Ramen still delivers a very good dining experience. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine, but the restaurant is also known for its vibrant and inviting interior design. Highly recommended for ramen enthusiasts...
