A Hair-Raising Experience.
This afternoon, I decided to treat myself to some food at Soju Bar. I'm a big fan of their bibimbap, so naturally, I was looking forward to my meal. We also ordered a portion of fried chicken. However, the excitement quickly turned into bewilderment when I noticed a shiny, golden hair glistening with sauce right in the middle of the chicken. Alright, mistakes happen. We informed the staff, who promptly replaced the dish.
We resumed eating, but as we got down to the last three pieces, I had the unpleasant experience of pulling a five-centimeter black hair from my mouth. Holding the chicken, I could see another ten centimeters of black hair firmly embedded in the batter. That was the end of my appetite. Two servings of fried chicken, both with hair. The probability? A solid 100%.
We had to inform the staff again, who apologized and offered a free dessert as compensation. At this point, I just wanted the unpleasantness to end and accepted their offer.
However, about two and a half hours later, with nothing else consumed in between, I started experiencing severe nausea and diarrhea. It's hard not to connect these symptoms with the seriously unhygienic food I had just eaten. As someone who typically has a strong stomach, this was alarming. I can't in good conscience give more than a one-star rating after...

Walking past the Markthal, Soju Bar usually wouldn’t catch my eye especially as someone who doesn’t drink alcohol and avoids meat. But my son had his heart set on fried chicken, so we ventured in to explore their veggie friendly options. And I have to admit, it wasn’t a bad experience at all.
We ordered:
Bibimbap with Tofu I was genuinely impressed. The shiitake mushrooms were packed with umami, and the tofu marinated in brine was surprisingly flavorful. The bowl arrived hot, and that delightful crispy rice at the bottom added an authentic touch.
Fried Chicken Mix – Sweet & Spicy & Cheese Onion The selection of sauces was quite generous. My son wanted to try two flavors and was told by the waiter it was possible though a €2 extra charge applied. That felt a bit off, considering it should arguably be part of the service experience, but the flavors themselves didn’t disappoint.
Mango Bingsu The mango bingsu was a refreshing end to the meal cool, sweet, and satisfying.
Soju Bar might not be a goto spot for vegetarians or non drinkers, but it holds up well if you're tagging along with someone who craves Korean-style fried chicken. A little more flexibility in service could elevate the experience, but overall, it was a...
Read moreVisited Soju Bar, a renowned Korean restaurant specializing in Korean Fried Chicken. While we’ve dined at Soju Bar multiple times, this visit took us to their Markthal branch, a change from our usual spot on Witte de Withstraat.
As always, we indulged in their signature fried chicken. We ordered the Onion Lover, a boneless chicken dish topped with a sweet yogurt onion sauce and a generous layer of raw onions. It’s my all-time favorite, and we never skip it. We also tried the Honey Butter, featuring boneless chicken tossed in a rich butter sauce and finished with a touch of honey. Lastly, we sampled the Soju Gangnam Style, boneless chicken coated in gochujang mayo sauce—mild in heat but packed with flavor.
Another should-try is their rice, which isn’t your standard plain white rice. It’s infused with sesame oil, nori, and other seasonings, giving it a unique and delicious taste that perfectly complements the chicken.
Having explored several Korean Fried Chicken spots, Soju Bar remains my top choice. The chicken is always fresh, crispy, and bursting with flavor, with a variety of options to suit any palate. Highly recommended for anyone craving top-notch Korean...
