La Galleria Boulevard — Restaurant in The Hague

I have ordered a starter and pizza at La Galleria.

Food quality/presentation:

The mixed starter, was of very poor quality. Parma ham was rancid, dry and it was not freshly cut. More or less the same can be said about the rest of the platter, the cucumber stuffed with shrimps (which is not an italian starter) was also old, soft and squishy. The presentation was very approximative and messy, perhaps to cover up the ingredients that were not fresh. In fact, after eating this platter I began to have stomachache. The pizza for two, was of better quality. The mozzarella and ingredients used as toppings were tasting good and fresh. The pizza, according to me was not cooked in a wood-burning oven, as stated on several adverts in the restaurant. But overall I would say it was eatable. All in all, both courses didn't have much to do with Italian tradition (Dutch salami was used as topping for the Quattro Stagioni pizza, which supposed to have only ham as meaty topping).

Decoration:

Even if the new decor of the restaurant looks pretty good, and gives a good impression, the chairs are narrow and not comfortable. The worse part comes, when I looked on the ground: dirt, crumbs, hair, dirt, sand and more, were to be found everywhere on the floor.

Service:

The waiter was rather attentive and nice, rather welcoming and smiling each time he came to the table. On the other hand, when I explained the lack of quality in the starter I just had, he just said he would report it to the cook, but then didn't do anything to apologise, or to make it up for the situtation. Finally, the surprise was, unlike in the Italian tradition, that I got no discount of even a complimentary coffee or drink, in order to apologise for the poor quality of the starter, but instead the pizza for two, which costed 18,5EUR on the menu, was charged 20,50EUR on the receipt.

It is a pity that this restaurant, that just some years ago, used to be a good Italian restaurant, with nice personnel and good quality, has become so bad and poorly managed. Personally, I will never go back to La Galleria again, and won't...

4 stars for the live music, -2 for the service and -1 for the food. My boyfriend and I went there Sunday evening, we waited for so long to be seated, the table was not even clean - there were leftovers on the table. The waitress literally threw the menu on our table and pretended she didn’t see the leftovers and just walked away! In the end we had to clean it ourselves! Most of the staff looked very unhappy and unfriendly, you can’t ask any questions because they were always having a poker face and ignoring you. It’s a huge restaurant with too little staff, guess that’s the reason. They have such good reviews - I thought at least the food would be good - no, not at all, my pasta was not even fully cooked - it’s cold and hard, the seafood was also not fresh. By the way the toilet was disgusting, looked like they cleaned it once a week and the trash can was also completely full. So I am pretty worried about their hygiene, for the food also. Wir waren am Freitag, dem 6. Oktober mit 11 Frauen (48 - 51 Jahre) zum Abendessen dort. Als Vorspeise hatten wir uns "Pane e Burro" (Hausgemachtes italienisches Brot mit Butter und Olivenirgendwas) und "Bruschetta" (Knoblauchbrot mit Tomate) bestellt. Es wurde weißes Baguettebrot mit einer Handvoll 10g-Butterpäckchen (die kleinen Plastikpäckchen man vom Frühstücksbuffet kennt) und geröstetes Toastbrot mit einer Handvoll geschmackloser Tomatenwürfel serviert, die den Namen "Bruschetta" bei weitem nicht verdient hatte. Das fand ich schon eine Frechheit. Als Hauptspeise hatte ich eine Tomatensuppe und einen Blattsalat mit Putenbrust mit Pesto und Bacon. Der Salat selber hatte gar kein Dressing, und die drei Teelöffelchen Pesto reichten gerade aus sich die drei Scheiben Putenbrustaufschnitt (!) etwas geschmackvoller zu gestalten. Am Tellerrand kauerte eine Scheibe billiger Weißbrottoast. Ich darf sagen dass wir eigentlich alle gute Esser sind, erstaunlicherweise verblieben auf jedem der Teller große Pizzareste und um die letzten "Bruschetta" hat sich auch keiner mehr geprügelt. Ich habe die Pizza selbst nicht probiert aber ich konnte von den übrigen aus der Gruppe hören "schmeckt nicht besonders" und/oder "zäh". Die Einrichtung des Restaurants war, sagen wir mal - stiltechnisch ein Durcheinander von Wohnzimmeratmosphäre, Grieche, Kellerbar, etc.. Gediegen, aber interessant. Die Tischoberflächen waren ziemlich abgeranzt und damit nicht gerade appetitlich. Im Restaurant spiele eine 2-Mann-Liveband, die sich Mühe gab bei allen Anwesenden sämtliche Italo-Songs ins Gedächtnis zu rufen die es auf der Welt je gegeben hatte (Beispiel, der Klassiker: "Quando Quando Quando..."). Ich persönlich habe es eher als störend empfunden und kann dieser Musikrichtung sowieso nichts abgewinnen und fand es auch zu laut, aber die Geschmäcker sind ja verschieden. Den übrigen Gästen schien es gefallen zu haben. Wer in Ruhe und Gemütlichkeit ein Abendessen genießen und sich dazu unterhalten möchte, ist hier fehl am Platz. Ich muss dazu fairerweise erwähnen dass die übrigen Restaurants an dieser Essensmeile fast alle mit einer Live-Combo bestückt waren - das scheint hier so üblich zu sein. Das einzig Positive an dem Abend waren die Kellner (es waren auch ausreichend Kellner da was nicht immer selbstverständlich ist), die alle Gäste schnell bedienten. In den anderen Rezensionen hatte ich auch negatives darüber lesen können, offensichtlich hatten wir an dem Abend aber Glück. Empfehlen kann ich dieses Restaurant nicht und ich würde auch nicht noch einmal hingehen.
