Either dropped standards since the last high review, or are very overrated by reviewers and Pie Competitions We were a party of 3 with varying taste preferences when we visited on Saturday (2 days ago) We ordered 4 flavours below and each of us tried each of the pies for fair comparison. Steak n cheese, steak n mushroom, buttered chicken and potato top pie. Steak n cheese - Chunky steak pieces which is usually good however gravy tasted very tangy and overpowering, that we could not taste the steak Steak n mushroom - did not taste natural (like powdered mushroom gravy) and was bland. Pastry had more flavour than the filling Buttered chicken - overboard with the onion which was mostly all we could taste - couldn't finish it Potato Top pie - was actually the only one that saved place from a rating of 1 for "Food" rating. Suprisingly great considering the standard of the others we had tried. Tried this place due to many reviews I have heard and awards they have won and after finally eating here, realised that the judges definitely need to venture out to South Auckland where some bakeries there are levels higher than what we experienced here. Price was what you would expect at an Ellerslie bakery with award recognition, however service was poor, kid who served us did not smile, was not welcoming and made experience very transactional, probably as we did not look like locals. Am glad I waited till we were in the area to try this place rather than making a special trip. Won't come here again, except if someone (who looks local) is buying me...
Read moreI ordered a steak, jalapeño and cheese pie, carrot cake and a small flat white.
The pie was delicious. The pastry was flaky and buttery. The filling had some good soft chunks of steak. There was a fair amount of jalapeño and the spiciness built up quite a bit so if you can’t tolerate spicy foods keep this in mind. I personally loved the spiciness and felt it was well balanced and not overpowering and imparted good flavour.
I have previously had the potato top pie: It was one of the best I’ve ever had. Heaps of potato and savoury mince that spilled over when you had a bite. All the while the pastry bottom held its integrity allowing me to eat it by hand.
Carrot cake was moist and absolutely divine. The icing was not too sweet but added a nice counterpart to the moist richness. I could taste the walnuts in the cake itself which added a nice flavour and texture to it as well.
The small double shot flat white was exquisite. Not a lot of bakery’s do good coffee, so I was very happy to have a fantastic coffee too!
Heaps of other options like rolls and sandwiches, which I’m dying to try.
Definitely give it Richoux Patisserie a try, you...
Read moreAll over my Instagram, I had to drive from the shore to try this $19.90 lobster pie. As soon as I get there, this little bakery is crazy busy. However, they seemed to manage a quick flow of customer service, so no one was waiting too long.
Lobster pie 9.1/10 Like seafood Chowder, this pie had all the elements of that. Nice flaky pastry, filling has garlic, small chunks of lobster and potato. Expected more lobster meat. However, it was very good.
Guinness steak and cheese pie 9.4/10 Found this better than the lobster pie tbh. Love the Guinness flavor through the gravy and a nice amount of cheese sauce.
Wagyu beef red curry 8.4/10 It's like a sweet red curry with some spice. You'll probably like this if you're into curries.
Matcha cream doughnut 8.5/10 Light cream with strong matcha flavor, soft doughnut, and was very nice to eat.
Coffee cream doughnut 8.7/10 Also added a line of caramel with the coffee cream, this was my favourite of the two.
It's hard to choose which pie would be your favorite, as all these pies would cover everyone preferences. Best bakery in auckland? Definitely in the...
