Sanehs Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Ōrākei

As locals, having been to Sanehs a numerous times previously ,we were very unimpressed by the service and attitude of the staff last evening. We had booked for 7pm. After being seated at a 'double' table for at least 10 minutes we were informed that one table would be removed and the four of us would have to squeeze onto one table only adequate for two people - physically impossible for four adults, with four plates, four serving dishes, plus water and wine glasses. We were then ignored by the staff for a least half an hour. The guests at the table next to ours, who came in after us, were served their meals before we received menus. A table that had been empty the entire time on our other side was added to our one table another half hour later (8pm) after which our order was finally taken The air conditioning was changed to cold, directly above our table. The comments from a male staff member were dismissive, sarcastic and unpleasant. What an unnecessary performance, causing us to feel unappreciated and uncomfortable as guests. I have lived in Ellerslie for 8 years now and only gave this Restaurant a go for the first time last week. I am a huge fan of Thai cuisine and so usually travel reasonably far to assure I get an authentic meal as many Thai restaurants in Auckland are bland and a let down. I have clearly been wasting the petrol though as the best Thai in Auckland is 2 minutes down the road from me. My wife and I revisited it again last night to ensure that the first time wasn't a fluke and we were again wowed by the flavours. Service and decor are solid without being overbearing but the food is SERIOUSLY GOOD! Clearly the rest of the locals know about it as it was very busy for the middle of the week so worth booking. I recommend taking a few risks with what you order here rather than sticking to the standard fair.The Lamb Massaman curry is totally off the charts and the Scallops and Duck we had were superb too. I ordered takeaways online specifically chose not spicy.The dish I got was spicy as and I had to quickly prepare dinner for my daughter. When I called I was told they will deliver another mild version which was fair but then the chef came on the phone. She was rude as and told me the dish I chose had Chilli. So then what was the point of giving t He option of not spicy, mild and medium and hot if the dish is just hot full stop. This is a consumers affairs situation. Incorrect advertising. I have been going to this place for years but not ever again. Own up to the mistake. It's not as if you gave the food for free. So do rude. I feel for the Frontline staff.
