I love visiting Pastrami & Rye with my family on a Sunday morning for a delicious breakfast. Located in Ellerslie, the eatery itself is not big in size and has only a few seats for a quick morning bite, yet the place itself is very cozy and has a nice New York character to it.
Apart from their impressive main menu, they offer whole bunch of on-the-go freshly made/baked items, and trust me all of those look bloody delicious. So far everything we tried there from sandwiches, to sweets, to coffee was amazing! Their sandwiches are honestly the best ones I’ve tried so far in New Zealand. Every sandwich comes with a side of potato chips and a few slices of their homemade pickles, and… you guessed it right, they are also crazy delicious.
So far, we only tried a Reuben sandwich and the Cuban sandwich, but aiming to try everything on the menu. The Cuban is our absolute favourite, it's seriously good. The bread has that perfect buttery crunch to it, yet it’s not very greasy or heavy. The pork is very tender, and as I mentioned earlier their homemade pickles are just delicious.
I highly recommend this place for their amazing delicious food, friendly staff and quick service! Trust me on this one, when you try it, there’s no going back, you will be...
Read morePastrami specifically refers to pastrami that is cured and cooked in-house, and the pastrami sandwich is the main item. When you take one bite, your mouth will overflow with meat juice, and your mouth will be filled with the aroma of bacon. Some parts of the meat were a little raw, so it was very tender, and the portion was big enough for me. Great for carnivores.
The first time I ordered Franch Dip, I looked at the seat next to me and realized that the gravy was for dipping potato chips. The second time I ordered Reuben.
The shop is tidy and has a great atmosphere. The staffs are humming songs and joking with each other, walking around in the narrow space, getting food, grilling meat, frying bread with butter, and topping…let food add a healthy and positive emotional energy.

Read moreWe have been loyal customers of Pastrami & Rye for a few years now and are generally happy with our orders (bar the odd missing/wrong item, etc), but today was the final straw - ordered a Veggie Sandwich and asked for no tomatoes but my sandwich was full of them. Ordered a BEC and there was literally a piece of egg shell on top of the bun. And the last thing that really hammered the nail in was the potato salad - we noticed black markings on the lid when we went to open it and were disgusted when we did open the lid as it was covered with dirt, hair, and other unknown things. It honestly looked as though the lid was picked up off the floor?! (See attached photos) This resulted in hair and dirt also being in the potato salad, which made us feel too disgusted to eat. Very upset with the quality of our order considering every single item had an issue which is extremely disappointing considering the price...
