What a beautiful space! Sen has a very warm atmosphere to it. Very chic! Great for a date ! My partner treated me to dinner at Sen last night. The service is wonderful, the staff are all very kind and their lead waitress is very attentive! She explained the whole menu to us, pointing out Vietnamese favorites and staple dishes for us ! The food was Crazy! You must try the Nem Lui (pork skewers) they are cooked on a lemongrass stalk that gives you a little spritz of flavour every time you bite ! We also had the summer rolls and spring rolls. Both of which were so fragrant and came with a variety of dipping sauces. Try the summer roll with the hoison sauce! So good ! Our waitress even went the extra mile to set our entrees up as a sharing platter since we were on a date! My partner order the Bo Cari. A bright beef curry. The sauce was nice and thick and the flavour kind creeps up on you. Many layers to the sauce. And nice soft veges to accompany! Decent portions I ordered the Ca Sot Man. A Tarakihi fish With a sweet plum sauce base. There were veges on the plate but the fish sings by itself. The sauce is a little sweet, a little sour, but all round so much flavour!!!! Great portion size also! And not too heavy Add on a Vina colada ( a kinda fizzy pinacolada) and your night will be made. 10/10 will see you again !!!!

We celebrated a belated birthday at Sen Vietnam Kitchen & Bar in Mt Eden, and it brought in nostalgia learning this restaurant is in the CAC building which previously housed one of my favorite restaurants. The staff was wonderful and warm to deal with and attentive and the interior remained striking and impressive as I’d remembered previously however now with accents of Vietnamese paraphernalia tastefully adorning the walls. The menu read impressively from beverages to food and we started with cocktails, Mango Tango with sparkling water. These were refreshing and gorgeously tropical and befitting of a warm evening. For starters we tried the Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Chicken Lemongrass Bao and Minced Pork Lemongrass Skewers and Mango Salad with Beef. Each dish was delicious with the Bao being the standout. To follow on, we ordered the Chicken Red Curry, Bun Cha and Sweet Spicy Passionfruit Prawns with jasmine rice. I thoroughly enjoy every exquisite mouthful from each dish and was truly besotted by the curry for its flavour, texture and fragrance. It was a dinner setting in heaven. We tried more cocktails including La Chanh Mule and Tra Chanh Mojito, simply stunning. I truly loved my dining experience at Sen as it was truly an elevated and very memorable experience of Vietnamese cuisine. Highly recommended!

Complete fail. The food and the service are poor. We went to dinner, there were only 20’people in the restaurant, the wait for the drinks were horrendous. First we had the MUC CHIEN TRUNG MUOI ($22) It was suppose to be fried squid coated in a crisp layer of salted egg yolk. It was tough squid in a soggy batter. Not impressed and basically inedible. The single $11 BANH BAO KEP THIT was pretty much the same. The steamed bun was straight from freezer to microwave and was dense and wet. The crispy pork was chewy, soggy and drowned in hoisin sauce. I could not eat the bun it was so bad. The $31 THIT KHO TO is described in the menu as melt-in-your-mouth caramelised pork belly, served with asian slaw. It was two braised pork slices that were not caramelized but in a very salty sauce with an asian garnish. There was no asian slaw! Finally the Vietnamese coffee for $9 which took 30mins to come out. An utter disappointment. Hardly any condensed milk and it ended up being one mouthful of tepid coffee. Overall a complete rip off and disappointment for what everything was. This is my second time here, the first time was completely average but I decided to give them a second chance as I love Vietnamese food. I should have gone elsewhere.

. (02/2019) This beautiful Vietnamese restaurant is located over Normanby Road in Mount Eden and can be easily spotted on the roadside from a moving vehicle in normal traffic. Convenient location. Well managed, organised and nicely maintained. Comfortable seating. Excellent ambiance and cosy atmosphere. The seating is extended to second level which presents a lovely view as well as great surrounding. Plentiful food options with dedicated section for vegan and vegetarian ones. Delicious food and it comes with good presentation. Drip coffee, Banh Bao Chay and Ca Tim Chay are amazing. We were looking forward to mango salad but due to different season, it was replaced with papaya after informing us. Table service. Offers takeaways. Well timed service. Pleasant and helpful staff but once you have been served, you may have to try hard to get attention of servers for anything else. Could not notice wheelchair accessible seating or high chair in plain view at this location. Good for groups and catch-ups. Reservation can be made in advance and is recommended for big groups. Good place to spend quality time. There is no dedicated parking area available although ample shared parking can be found. Finding parking can be a struggle over a weekend or a day with some sports event at Eden park. Entrance is not wheelchair accessible. PayWave facility is available at this location. Had a great experience, more because of...

My second visit since I posted a review last month and - sadly - was sooo disappointed! I brought my son (who is a Chef at Masu) and his girlfriend as I wanted them to experience Sen and... OMG... the 'service' was embarrassingly woeful and the brulee disappointing. The waiters (different to our last visit) had to be asked twice to remove the stack of menu's from our table after we ordered and as they cleared the tables from surrounding diners, they just stacked the dirty dishes on the empty, but clean, tables [plural] next to us and left them there whilst they went downstairs - empty handed! I've never seen anything of the kind! Sadly, the brulee, which I'd previously raved about, came out this night with what looked like tinned boysenberries on top and the juice just dissolved the incredibly perfect sugared crust on the top! Such a waste! Bahn Bao were average. I'd be hard pressed to return. (1st Visit - October) My friend brought me here for dinner and I was so pleasantly surprised! Service and food is excellent. We ordered the 'Shaking Beef, Steamed bun and asian greens' and... wait for it... 3 desserts!! Defintiely order the brulee. It was THE BEST brulee we'd ever had!! The puffed rice was unimpressive but the chocolate cake made up for it! Ambience is great and the interior - absolutely charming! Will definitely return before I leave NZ!...
