Unpalatable food and Pathetic customer service!!! That was a shocking lunch experience. The Good Home has completely dropped the ball here. I thought I was ordering âthe lemon & herb chicken set upon roasted garlic buttered gourmet potatoes. Served with chilli cheese corn on the cob & broccoliniâ. I was totally stunned when the dish was brought to our table. It could not have looked more lackluster and unappetizing. I had specifically discussed at length about the roasted potatoes with the wait staff because I was considering another dish that had potatoes cooked differently. And I ended up getting half a roast chicken that not only looked extremely unappealing but turned out to be completely dry and tasteless, served with three boring corn cobs and roasted âKumaraâ instead of the discussed buttered potatoes. There was no hint of garlic or butter on the kumara. The two small stalks of broccolini were dried out and hardâŚmy friends watched as I battled to cut the broccolini. I told the wait staff that I was extremely disappointed with my food, and the staff conveyed that to the manager. Nothing was done to fix the flavourless and uninspired food that was served. A friend laughingly pointed out that we could have simply ordered three moist and succulent roast chicken from the Countdown Deli instead for the price of this plate or better still, four or more roast chickens from Costco. We have had better food at The Good Home before and believe that they probably have a new inexperienced Chef. How can anyone ruin a roast chicken?!! The Good Home Chef certainly could do with further training and upskilling on how to roast chicken without drying it out and how to plate it better. Importantly, he needs to learn to stick to honouring whatâs written on the menu. What a disaster it turned...
Read moreâThe standout feature of The Good Home Mt Eden is the venue itself. It's huge, providing plenty of elbow room, unlike many cramped Auckland pubs. The space is intelligently divided, featuring a main bar area with large screens ideal for watching sports, dedicated seated dining sections, and even a private dining area perfect for functions. They also boast a sunny deck and, notably for families, a fantastic kids' play area, which sets this location apart from other Good Home venues. The music and general ambiance are lively and engaging, often leveraging a digital jukebox system that lets customers choose songs, adding a great personal touch to the vibe. âFood and Drink âThe kitchen aims for "gastropub" status, offering a substantial menu with classic pub dishes like burgers, ribs, lamb shanks, and seafood chowder, alongside various flatbreads and sides. The food, however, is where opinions tend to split. While the portions are generous, the general consensus suggests the quality can be inconsistent and sometimes overpriced for what you receive, with some popular items like the large burgers being described as enjoyable but potentially too...
Read moreThis place looks great and there is a nice selection of beers and stuff on tap. The service by the staff was also pretty good. The only reason I give this a 3 instead of a different rating is due to the experience I had and the food. My table and I were seated by 1:05 and had ordered our drinks shortly after. It would be another 50 minutes before our food actually showed up however. When It finally did arrive some of the people in our party said it was cold. The rack of ribs that i had were sub par. Dont get me wrong, the ribs themselves were cooked perfectly, but the sauce that was labeled on top of them was quite sweet and overpowered the ribs flavour a bit. It tasted like ketchup someone had thrown some molasses in to change the flavour. So that want particularly nice to eat. The sale was nice though. All that being said the customer service was excellent and we were given a discount on our food because of how late/cold done of it was so credit where it's due. The customer service at the good home can't be faulted. However, i can't say I'd eat there again myself unless someone insisted. As a side note the beers on tap are...
