Visited on a public holiday which included a 15% surcharge. Service was ok but a bit slow as our meals were warm but not hot. The table next to us arrived earlier than us but actually had to go into the cafe to order after they realised we were asked to order first. The outside seating was nice if a little crowded and some untidy areas off to one side. It's very small inside so if the weather is not good, you might be struggling for a table. Still, it was very busy when we arrived, unsure if that's because some cafes were closed due to the holiday or if this place is popular. Prices were ok but I'm not a fan of surcharges for public holidays, especially when the service is not on point. Bonus points for being dog friendly.

I had lunch here after a busy day exploring this side of town. The place has a charming rustic vintage eclectic vibe. If you appreciate design and decor, you’ll enjoy it even more. There’s plenty of seating, including shared tables. Keep in mind that orders might take longer to be served if it’s busy. Also, don’t wait for the staff to take your order at the table—you’ll be waiting for nothing. Instead, head inside to place your order first before finding a table. The staff may not greet you as you walk in (haha), so just join the queue and wait your turn. Overall, the food and ambiance are okay, but staff-wise, a friendly smile and a welcoming attitude would go a long way. Good service is about more than just the food!

We had such a good experience here! Our food was incredible and fresh, and so full of flavour. I’m gluten free and asked if they could make a few adjustments and the waitress wasn’t sure but sent the chef out to speak to us, and he was very accommodating. The mussels were out of this world, and we were disappointed they were sold out of salmon but it comes directly from the ocean in Akaroa and weren’t getting the next fresh delivery til that afternoon, from the morning’s catch. Would come back just for that! Eclectic little place with lots of different types of places to sit, we were very glad we wandered in

Worst Coffee of 2017 was had here, on none other than New Years day, 2017.

Edit: in response to the owners reply - yes we did both burn our mouth because it was the first same jug of milk for both coffees! Also of note, there are several bad reviews for New Years and around that time, dig down into the reviews below and look for the one or two star ones that mention New Years. Fantastic dismissive responses by the owners and staff for multiple unhappy customers.

--

It was so damn hot that my girlfriend scalded her mouth and back of her throat and I burnt my tongue and all the inside of my mouth - both of us got blisters in our mouths from the heat.

I went back inside and asked for the manager who who seemed to think that the coffee was acceptable for serving to a customer and I was over-exaggerating what had just happened.

She offered for them to make the drinks again - to which I replied "No, because I now can't taste anything and neither can my girlfriend".

They absolutely ruined our New years day because when you have a burnt mouth you can't taste anything and no amount of water could take away the pain of our blistered mouths.

Never, ever ever going to recommend a place like this ever. Making coffee to the correct temperature is pretty easy and doesn't take much effort - it is just simply so unbelievable; that not only was it that hot but, that they felt it was fine to serve to...

Had the most APPALLING experience at this restaurant!! Only go here if you want terrible service, i would avoid this place like the bubonic plague. We started off walking to the back to look at the shop, then after decided we wanted to eat we went upto the till to order as there was no waitstaff anywhere to be found. Once at the till there was a very grumpy horrid man (we think his name was carlos) who was complaining that we had gone upto the till to order our 1 meal, he was saying “this is exactly why we take orders at a table” even though there was no table service to be seen at all. Once we orderd we sat at our table and a friend who just joined us asked for a menu and the same rude man told us to go up and grab it ourselvs “get it yourself buddy” we’re the exact words used, contradicting the whole “table service” issue. Once the food arrived our coffee had to be passed down from one side of the table to the other as they just dropped it at the wrong side, the food was no as it said on the menu, on the eggs benifict it was started that it came with english muffins but it was literlly just a bun cut in half. There was one lovely asian lady who took our order at the till but other than that this terrible man made our experience extremely unpleasant. I will not be coming back to this...

Pulled in here for brunch on a Saturday morning. With paths and decks clearly in need of waterblasting and other maintenance, the venue has a tired and slightly neglected air to it and the table had a slightly sticky feel. The menu looked promising, except for the rather off-putting note on the children’s menu -clearly smaller portions of items such as pancakes etc- that only under 12s could order these. No Exceptions! This made us uncomfortable from the start as two of us are not big eaters and realised that the service-focused attitude of city cafes who will happily give you a half portion of brunch was not going to be in play here, even though they were charging city prices. Despite this, and because we had already settled the four year old into his seat, we stayed and ordered the cooked breakfast, toast and preserves and one waffles which two of us just shared. Sadly, they were not great. The waffles were dry and cardboardish, even with the addition of maple syrup. The toast and preserves was fine, with nice sourdough. The fried breakfast was okay - not the best ever but rated okay by the eater. Overall, it was not a great brunch experience for the quality of the food vs price but choices were thin...
