It was Father’s Day afternoon and I wanted to treat my husband with coffee and treats and we stopped by Crater cafe. When we walked into the cafe we haven’t been greeted by staff member( the older lady), we were in a good mood until we started ordering treats for ourselves. The lady was quite rude and impatient, we had to tell her few times about not to put an ice cream in the cone, which eventually she did… Then my husband ordered toasted sandwich, which he was waiting for the whole time we were there. Just before we were about to leave the cafe, she realized she forgot to put sandwich on the hot plate to toast, didn’t apologized or say a word to us🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️, the young guy- staff member was quite polite and urged to tell us about it, we said we wanted a refund as it was too late. The lady didn’t say a word and brought us refund and literally dropped the money on the table and walked away😲😲😲. Won’t be coming back at all. Ruined the whole...

Went 2 weeks ago for the first time. Honestly very average food and coffee. The customer service was below average. As soon as we walked in we looked in the cabinet for 1 minute and the older lady behind the counter huffed loudly and walked off and muttered something about us needing longer to decide, like we were putting her out for waiting while we decided. That should have been our first warning sign to leave. Same lady bought out our drinks and food with no enthusiasm. Service with a smile goes a long way. A couple behind us looked like they had an average experience too. Barista made the wrong coffee, so bought out a bottle of chocolate sauce and showed them how to turn their coffee into a mocha. Unbelievable. They should have just remade the coffee like any other cafe would do. Will...

Undoubtedly the BEST COFFEE in Akaroa, with warm friendly service, delicious and freshly made cabinet options suitable for breakfast, lunch or a quick bite to eat.

You know it’s good when you see the locals going here every morning for their regular coffee! 😉

A great place to hang out, people watch or chill inside for a couple hours working on your laptop, sipping on seriously well made coffee.

Great selection of cold drinks too, including smoothies, iced drinks and even ice-cream (if that tickles your fancy)

Don’t skip out on the baked goodies too, Cheryl is an incredible baker and her carrot cake is...

Really nice cafe open early in Akaroa. The staff there was really nice and the food is really delicious. I tried an amazing vegan plum/raspberry slice, and later came back for lunch where we had a mozzarella/pesto baguette sammie as well as a bacon and egg croissant. Both were really nice pastry and bread (huge flaky croissant) and the fillings were very flavorful and balanced. Warm recommendation for anyone wanting to get some nice bites in Akaroa before or after a dolphin swim. They also have lots of coffee and tea drinks including a coconut matcha latte that was decent.

If you’re heading to Akaroa and don’t stop in at Crater Cafe, you’re seriously missing out. Jen is an absolute superstar—like, next-level kind of amazing. The coffee? Perfection. The smoothies? So good they’ll ruin all other smoothies for you. And the food? Actually to die for. I’m not exaggerating when I say the scones are the best I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. It’s also dog-friendly, which makes it even better. Crater Cafe is the whole vibe. Get yourself there—you won’t be disappointed. 🖤

My family and I came here for coffee and had a wonderful experience! I ordered a decaf flat white and got to taste-test a pork-apple pie and an apple strudel with cream. My flat white was made well, and the cabinet treats were to die for! Everything was heated to perfection and the flavors combined nicely. It’s a cute cafe with a lot of outdoor seating and the baristas are attentive and kind. I would absolutely come here again!
