Having dined (May) at the Manchester St Long Star for our 14th Wedding Anniversary, we wanted to let the team know that we appreciated the kind gesture at the end of our meals. Thank you. The food was enjoyable although there were some aspects of our evening that left us feeling quite overwhelmed. With around 6 different staff members tending to us throughout the evening, we felt it quite overwhelming with all the interruptions and having to repeat ourselves each time. With a Wedding Anniversary, this many interruptions felt excessive as we couldn't spend time enjoying the occasion. Prior to serving our mains, no one checked to see if we had finished our entrees or cleared the table ready for mains so when they came out we had to hold up the dirty dishes in order for the server to put down the main plates instead. While the table we were seated at was nice, it was not conducive to a Romantic dinner for two as it was set for us to be seated across from one another. In hindsight I should have reset the table so we could be seated together. When choosing our orders from the extensive menu, no specials or varieties of the day were mentioned which meant we had to ask what each one was. With so much information, I ended up choosing the wrong meal. With the staff not wearing the same uniform it was hard to tell who the diners were and who the servers were. Being the flagship store, it was surprising to see that the standards for customer service were not set higher than experienced. I would love to see this location as being the one who defines the level of expectations when it comes to customer service and would be more than happy to share my expertise on the matter. Thank you again and hopefully this feedback has been beneficial to ensure repeat diners, time and again. Natasha and Russell - Romantic Gestures NZ

While in Christchurch for work, Lone Star had charge back to my hotel so thought I'd try it. Was MUCH better than I expected. Service was fast and friendly (I was in a bit of a hurry to go to the Comedy club nearby and they made sure I was done in time without rushing and spoiling anything!). The garlic chilli prawns were delicious (soft and juicy, not over done rubber like some places manage!) and the blackened fish (Gurnard) was excellent, really nice to have it with rice instead of chips, made for a very tasty but lighter healthier feeling meal!

Too American for me in terms of service. All a bit to smily and overly helpful, comes off a bit disingenuous. Having said that the mains were very nice. I had the venison dish the flavours of which were well balanced and the whole dish was brought together by a rich slightly tangy sauce. The portions werevhuge and I could have done without the cheese cake. It sounded great but lacked flavour and had too much gelatine for my liking. The chocolate work on the deserts looked impressive but tasted horrible! Leave it off if I won't enjoy eating it.

I love the Lone Star. And normally I would give them a 5 ☆ rating. They offer a great selection on the menu however this does sometimes make it difficult to make a decision. The staff are friendly and welcoming, seating is comfortable and food delivery swift.

Unfortunately, today we were greeted by two wait staff bickering, so embroiled in their argument they failed to notice us standing there waiting to be served until another member of staff pulled them into line.

Everyone in my party mentioned how uncomfortable the chairs were and I would have to agree with them, we were all jiggling around trying to find a comfortable position for the duration of our stay. In my experience, the booths offer far more comfortable seating and the solid wood chairs are better suited to a cafe.

Lastly, the chips on two of our meals had been over salted rendering them inedible. A simple solution to this scenario bearing in mind there are condiments at every table would be to present the food unsalted and allow the customer to season their food as they see fit. This would also assist those patrons with heart disease and other conditions whereby salt should be avoided.

On a positive note, the burgers were delicious, the pork was plentiful and the chicken dish was just right.

I will definitely return as I am interested to see if any of my comments are taken on board as I would love to give a...

We popped into the restaurant at 6pm on a Thursday evening for a quick meal on the way home from work. Unfortunately we were not sured for 20 minutes and the table beside us were also trying to get someone’s attention. This was surprising as the restaurant was empty at the time with only three tables occupied. We then ordered drinks to which my glass came out covered in someone else’s lipstick still on it. Our meals then came out and as I moved the sauce of my chicken it was completely raw inside and out. Luckily I hadn’t eaten a thing off the plate at this point and called the waitress over who was also in complete shock as to how raw my chicken really was. We were assured we wouldn’t be charged for this meal which I think went without saying. My partners meal was also un edible and we left without eating a meal but were still charged for everything that we had ordered other than the chicken. This was incredibly disappointing and also incredibly dangerous that the chef is incapable of remembering which chicken he had cooked and which had come straight out of the fridge raw. My advise stay away...
