I have travelled a lot and never received so much support from the manager & employees. They took care of my colleague who left at 3am in the morning, let me wash my things after check-out (a very clean washing room with excellent equipment), took care of an item I left and answered all my requests in a very friendly manner. If you need to wash, floors 1 to 4 are the best to stay. This is a capsule hotel, meaning you have to assume the rooms are quite small, but very well equipped and modern, everything is clean and rooms are made everyday. It is very close to the center of the city and the bus station. There is a market lane and a supermarket very close to H&M and a passage by the hotel that takes you in 8 minutes or less Cathedral Square. There is plenty storage space under the bed, but the room works best if you travel light. Basic rooms are not ideal if you need to work or long stays but you have Tūranga Library at 8 minutes walking distance -they do if you plan to move around-. Upgrade for long stays. Otherwise, beds are comfortable and it keeps you on a budget. Reception Desk is open 24 hours, which is something you cannot take for granted in hotels in AUS or NZ. Additional info: Do not book tours with Viator, better InterCity. For any tour, check the destinies carefully and do not try to walk on ice if you are not prepared with appropriate footwear. Use Amazon to buy covers for your shoes/wallking stick if you intend to do so. Finally, pay attention to the the maori contributions to the reconstruction plans all...
Read moreThis is our first time in Christchurch and out of the four days here, we spent three days on local tours. So, in terms of choosing a hotel, all I looked for is under Accor, whether there are any budget hotels available. We could have chosen ibis but somehow, BreakFree on Cashel looked more affordable to us. And that's why we were here. . In terms of the room, the one we picked had a decent Queen size bed but it was one meter tall. When my wife hurt her leg during the first day, she had difficulty in climbing up on the bed. The toilet was also quite small for a big guy to move around. We also noticed that the cups were not cleaned well. So, it's a 3-star rating for the room. . Now, for the service, we asked for our welcome drink as Accor member. The staff attending to us was very humble and polite and kept acknowledging us. Just on the time print - it's Monday 5 August at 5:30pm NZT. So, he deserved a 5-star rating from us. . Now talking about the location, this is where this hotel scored well. It's just 5 minutes to a supermarket (although the food items were generally more expensive than another supermarket which need a 10-15 minute walking). On top of that, it's a straight 5-minute walk to Riverside market so eating is not an issue. Also, the tram station is outside the hotel so if you do have a day pass, you can hop on and off the tram just outside the hotel to visit other scenic spots in Christchurch. On this note, the hotel location deserves a...
Read moreThe fact is that the room was super tiny but I kinda didn’t mind that as I looked at the pictures online before booking. But the fact that there was no window was not good. I would maaaaaybe survive that if the A/C was actually an A/C and not some noise making vent system. I would again survive that noise as well if the vent actually took the air out, but every morning I woke up all sweaty and the air was extremely stuffy because vent kept turning off constantly. The fridge that is also a nightstand right next to the head of the bed had to be turned off as it was making too much noise.
One of the nights I had a dinner in the hotel as it was raining and the table I chose had a bunch of long black hairs tangled in the sugar bowl. Wasn’t a great experience before dinner. And sea food bowl was really greasy. For 35$ just do yourself a favor and order Uber eats or go out.
Reception staff was basic. Not overly happy to help, not completely rude. Maybe I’m looking too much into it as a former 5* hotel reception supervisor who knows how guests are supposed to be treated.
The noise housekeeping staff makes early in the morning is unbelievable. And the fact that someone knocked on my door on two separate occasions while I had a “DND - Do not disturb” sign on is just unacceptable!
And if it helps - they don’t do currency exchange in the hotel so bring in the proper...
