Today I took my son out for breakfast to Supreme Supreme. It was a difficult decision as I looked at the menu as there weren't many options thait stood out as unique and different. We ended up choosing poached eggs on toast with hash browns on the side. When our breakfast arrived, I was incredibly disappointed. A large white plate was placed in front of me with one piece of buttered (who butters someone's toast for them? Let's be honest, this is probably a way of saving on butter instead of providing some on the side) Vics toast with two poached eggs on top and two little hashbrowns on the side. No garnish, no special housemade sauce. Nothing. Nothing special at all. For the price ($18) one would expect something way more than this. When I go out for breakfast I would hope to be offered something different and better than anything I could make at home. After finishing up, I then went to pay and was faced with a guy who clearly wanted to be back home in bed rather than serving anyone. He yawned rather dramatically in the faces of myself and the lady in front of me before he (in that incredible irritating hipster nonchalant attitude) begrudgingly took the order of the lady in front of me. As much as you dont think they are noticed, your moody vibes are very obvious. Since when has it been ok for customers to be treated as if they are a pain in the butt and wasting the time of those who rely on them to remain in operation? May we all just stop and realise for a second that it's the customers that keep you open, people! I hate to rant but since I've already begun I might as well finish. Supreme Supreme is not the only cafe in Christchurch where I've faced this unfortunate attitude, I don't know why this seems to be a recurring thing (not everywhere, I have to give a shout out to the lovely staff at Gentle Giant and Black and White Coffee Cartel!!!). After a recent visit to Wellington and having frequented many cafes while there I was pleasantly amazed at the high standard of service and food that was offered at numerous cafes. This just is not the standard in Christchurch. It highlighted even more the lack that I've experienced in Christchurch. It's a shame that the pursuit of excellence in the small details is so lacking even if you are just a cafe. I know this has ended up being a rant on the Christchurch cafe culture but it was today's "one too many" experience at Supreme Supreme that has...
Read moreIf I could give STC infinite stars I would! That’s because Dan and his team are a bunch of stars! Firstly, the food and coffee were both amazing. Flawless actually. The menu was super creative and had such a diverse range of options for all tastes and dietary requirements. I had the banana miso custard granola with tamarillo and I was blown away. By far the best breakfast I’ve ever had out in my life! It was so intricate and complex and incredibly delicious. Also the sparkling OJ was amazing. So was the cinnamon roll we shared. I can’t wait to see what the new menu entails. It was my first time visiting STC upon recommendation of a friend and Dan and his team made us feel so warmly welcomed. They took the time to get to know us, check in with us and really establish rapport and a connection with us and their guests around us. This team knows how to do hospitality. You can see they really put their heart and soul into what they do. I loved the vibes the space gave off, it was bright and spacious and even had an outdoor seating area. I can’t wait to get back and try...
Read moreI love visiting Supreme for a cuppa or bite to eat. The food is always prepared well and they excell at doing simple food well. A big credit for their chefs in the kitchen.
The staff are very knowledgeable and provided things aren't too hectic always willing to talk shop on brew methods, beans and other coffee topics. I've got them to thank for the ever growing pile of machines, brewers, filters and grinders on my bench!
Wednesday is bean day when the fresh batches arrive from the roasters which is prime time to get in and try something new. My fellow coffee lovers at work who make the trip each week. Haven't quite decided if it's best fresh of after letting the sit for a week after roasting. Guess we'll have to keep...
