Very average food.more like a takeaway bar food wise..the dips were in tiny dishes so you ran out before the breads were finished..one of the dips being potato with mayo mixed in..i had the kebab..so called platter..lol..very small serve of salad ,bread and two skewers..came with chips?..so greek,no rice ,no tabouli,chips..lol..and even that was small serve.my friend ordered spanakopita which again was small and arrived straight out of the fridge!!!.ie cold. Deserts were minute ,the so called halwa was a light dusting over a dollop of so called homemade icecream.im sure it wasnt homemade.i had the baklava ..again tiny ,one layer ,and dry..such a crappy rip off I would never bother with this dump again.. obviously more interested in making money judging by content and portion sises.compared to a real greek restaurant such as the Mykonos was it is a sad joke...never again. Ive hear there is a decent greek on Sherborne st..i will try there next. Post script.. In their response.they accuse us of drinking alcohol from outside.i guess thats more convienient than answering to food critique.we were a party of mostly Japanese and had brought with us some traditional plum cordial.non alcoholic..this was discussed with the waiter who apeared to be indian and agreed on by him..to misrepresent this is a disgusting cheap shot..yet another reason not to bother with this place...spartan by name and funnily the meals are truly spartan ( in the frugal sense as well)..i suspect there is very little greek input in this place..as for his cheap shot comments on my other reviews,i mostly only review when i feel people should be warned .if a restaurant is good then normally that is its best advertisement.i have checked spartans other reviews and find similar comments to mine among them..lol.given these people spend more time critiquing their customer than upping their game i presume things can...

Read moreGorgeous food!!! Our waiter informed us straight away they had staff off sick so to bear with him as he was doing both the cooking and the serving. He was efficient, super lovely, attentive, and the FOOD...my goodness it was delectable. We started with four dips and pita, each dip more delicious than the last it was hard to choose a favourite. Next came the calamaris cooked to perfection in the lightest and crispiest batter. All served with divine tzatziki sauce that complemented the seafood perfectly. The classic spinach and cream cheese filo pastries came next - the pastry was hot, light and buttery, and filled with loads of spinach. It was creamy, savoury and oh so yum!! We ordered a prawn souvlaki, seafood plate, and vege moussaka for our mains. Please see the pics of our mains -we didn't get any photos of the starters/meze because it was too delicious to wait! All in all I would totally reccomend this restaurant and we are already planning on coming back again. We used first table too as this is available during lunch hours which I would recommend, but to be totally honest we would have been more than happy to have paid full price and then some for the service and food we received. Thank you Spartan, we hope you remain a local staple in chch city for many...
