Quirky hotel right in the tram station where the city trans go right through the building. It's not noisy if you're wondering. Our room has a little patio off of it with a view down to the glass roof of the tram station. We would have sat out there if it hadn't been soooo rainy and chilly the few days that we were there. Thankfully because the one day that it was hot, the fan in the room was running full blast. We didn't know you don't need AC in Christchurch cause it's never that hot according to the front staff. I didn't like that when we got there there were rooms available but since it was early, we would have had to pay extra to check in early. They never give you your full 24 hours on the first and last day do they? Check in at 2 or 3 and check out at 10 or 11. I understand that they need time to clean but to charge you when the room is available for hours that by right you should have anyway us taking capitalism too far. And when we asked if we could use the washroom while we wait, they said we would have to go to the hotel next door. What? Anyway I would have given them one star for the check in but they were super nice afterwards. And they did seem to work really long hours so maybe it's just dumb management rules that they have to comply with. Overall a decent stay. Oh great location, really close...
Read moreDon’t waste your money! This place is an old restored building, since it’s renovations it has been turned into a maze of very heavy fire doors and each room is broken into sections. The photos on line a very deceiving, it is small and is manned by one staff, with no amenities, no plates 2 teaspoons, some glass ware, no minibar, no bar, no room service. At $245 thru Expedia it is a rort don’t waste your money. As soon as I got here the hotel next door was advertising $165 on Google maps. It deserves to be condemned by the EQC. And they charged me $30 for one night parking in-covered and no security round the back of the building in a disused building block. Only saving grace is it’s location at cathedral square if you want to navigate the nightmare of one way streets. Finally, both TV’s were very small and they kept freezing, I complained to the man on the desk and he said oh yes it must be because of the weather( it was raining) he blamed it on being a satellite system. Well duh at $245 for one night do you think you can get...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here late January 2023 for 3 nights. The room was oddly shaped but quite pleasant and clean, the bed firm and comfy. The reception was attended by polite people, which is a nice change in these days of lockable key boxes and code entries. The shower had a couple of serious failings that let the hotel down. The floor did not appear to be graded correctly to the drain so that when one of us showered, the water ran out towards the rest of the bathroom, soaking the foot mat and causing the other of us to retreat to the bedroom to avoid wet feet. Additionally and more seriously the shower temperature fluctuated from cool to seriously scalding hot on the lowest temp setting. When I raised this with reception the finger was pointed at a pressure control in the street main, which didn't make sense to me as the water pressure at the showerhead didn't vary at all (water jet did not pulse or vary in intensity). I can see others have commented on this so it is an ongoing safety issue that needs...
